Zeta Halanet System
A dark matter star located in the Ilioneus galaxy.
It was discovered by a Yunkad science vessel that was deployed near the center of the galaxy. Although this mission intended for the team to explore some of the more extreme environments of space, the most significant discovery by this science vessel would be the Zeta Halanet star, which is a dark matter star. Dark matter stars were previously hypothetical, but the Hyperion Science Association has now been made aware of one example of a dark star. Zeta Halanet is currently the only known dark matter star that exists.
This star is extremely large with a radius of almost 1000 astronomical units. This star alone is larger than almost every star system in existence. Furthermore, its mass of several million solar masses gives it an extremely powerful gravitational field.
Such a star probably formed in the very early Universe. Heat is generated primarily by dark matter annihilation which causes the star to expand and prevent 'normal' hydrogen atoms present from achieving pressures necessary to fuse. It thus emits very little light, and any objects orbiting it will be extremely cold (with the exception of other stars). It emits primarily gamma rays, neutrinos and antimatter.
The Zeta Halanet system holds great value to the Hyperion Federation due to the scientific oppurtunities present, and it is the only known star of its type. Although the HF could exploit the massive quantity of matter present using Planck-Dismantlement Beams, the population prefers to keep it intact for scientific purposes.
The star is large enough for other stars to orbit it such as the Sargas System.
