Alpha Tronolol Asteroid Belt
An asteroid belt in the Alpha Tronolol System.
It is further from the star than Alpha Tronolol III.
Although the star emits an extremely small amount of light, the asteroid belt still has several colonies built into it. These make mining of the asteroids much easier. However, starship pilots cannot rely on visual sight as the Alpha Tronolol system is extremely dark. They must rely on technologies similar to radar or perhaps some form of sensor that is capable of detecting metallic ore in asteroids. Many Rih'kiel call these colonies home.
The asteroid belt has a large amount of various metal ores in it, which makes the belt quite valuable. The HF mines them, sourcing matter plasma from the asteroids. Due to this value and the colonies in the belts, they also must defend the belts from enemies like pirates or other factions. They typically do this with large anti ship mines (that are concealed in the asteroids and are turned off and disarmed when the belts are not under attack), ships that can use the asteroids as cover, and small defence platforms, often built into the asteroids themselves. In case of a power outage, protocol is to stop moving relative to the asteroid belt. It is difficult to tell the trajectory of all asteroids in such a case, so any starships in the belt must constantly track the asteroids. In a power outage, backup systems should remain online and allow the computers to trace the predicted trajectories of the asteroids (as the radar would be offline). The crew can hopefully use this to steer the ship in such a way to avoid collisions. This should hopefully give them enough time to survive for the rescue ship to reach their location.
