Northeastern Region

The Northeastern region of the Great Ring includes the Norður Islands and the Ynys Archipelago . This region is loosely inspired by the islands of Western Europe, specifically the island groups centered on Great Britain and Iceland. Adventures set in the Northeastern region may feel more like a typical fantasy setting than other regions in the Million Islands. This article is intended to help players and GMs who are hoping to set a game in this region of the world.

Races & Cultures

There are three playable races native to the Northeastern Region - Humans, Selkies, and Zmei. There are several human cultures present here, one selkie culture, and one zmei culture.

Languages

There are many languages spoken within the world, but not all of them are well-known in the Northeastern Region. Here are a list of the languages common here. The Common Tongue is also spoken in the ports of this regions, specifically the Giltiaith dialect.

Geography

The region contains two major archipelagos - the Norður Islands, and the Ynys Archipelago. These are centered around two of the biggest islands in the Great Ring, Eyju and Ynys. There are also many smaller islands that are associated with each archipelago, some of which are detailed in their own articles, and others which are left intentionally undescribed, so that players can design something suited to their character backgrounds. When making your character, I would suggest looking through the list of cultures above, and then reading about the regions where that culture lives.

In the coordinates system of the Great Ring, the Northeastern region encompasses the region north of the 40th degree north, and east of the 25th degree east.

A Note on Cultural Inspiration

All of the cultures listed here include a note about what real-world culture inspired them. However, I have taken many liberties with my adaptation, and the resulting fictional cultures may only vaguely resemble their real-world counterpart.
