Kojima

Kojima is the largest island known to exist in The Islands. It is in the northwestern quadrant of the Islands, and is the center of the Empire of Wamato, which consists of three large islands and several dozen smaller ones. The current emperor is Emperor Komachi Ariwara.

Geography

Kojima has a varied landscape, featuring mountainous regions in the center, rolling hills in the east, and flat coastal areas in the west. The island has a number of rivers and lakes, which provide fertile land for farming. The coastal regions are home to fishing villages and ports. The mountainous regions are covered in dense forests and are home to a variety of wildlife.   The island has a number of active and dormant volcanoes, which have shaped the island's geography over time. The island also has a number of hot springs, which are a prized for their therapeutic qualities.   Notable locations include Raiju-ko, the lowest point in the island. According to a legend a dragon chose the lake for his home after wandering a long time.   Fugaku is the highest point on Kojima.

Ecosystem

The island supports a diverse range of plant and animal life.   The mountainous regions are home to dense coniferous and deciduous forests, which provide a habitat for a wide variety of wildlife, including deer, bears, wild boars, and a variety of bird species. The island's rivers and lakes are home to a variety of fish and other aquatic life.   The coastal regions have many saltwater marshes and estuaries, which support a diverse range of plant and animal life, including shorebirds, crabs, and shellfish. The island's beaches and rocky shores also provide habitat for a variety of marine life, including sea urchins, starfish, and sea anemones.   The island's hot springs also support a unique ecosystem, with a variety of thermophilic (heat-loving) microorganisms, such as bacteria and algae, as well as some unique species of fish and amphibians.

Ecosystem Cycles

One of the most notable would be the seasonal cycles of the island's forests. The forests experience a burst of activity in the spring, with the emergence of new leaves and flowers, and the arrival of migratory bird species. In the summer, the forests are lush and green, with a wide variety of insects and other invertebrates active. In the fall, the trees turn color and lose their leaves, and many species of birds and mammals prepare for winter. In the winter, the forests would be dormant, with only a few hardy species active.   Another interesting ecosystem cycle is the annual cycles of the island's rivers and lakes. The rivers and lakes experience a period of high water in the spring, as snow and ice melt from the mountains, followed by a period of low water in the summer and fall. This has an impact on the fish and other aquatic life in the rivers and lakes, as well as on the plants and animals that depend on them.

Localized Phenomena

  1. Volcanic Activity: Kojima has several active volcanoes which periodically erupt.
  2. Geysers and hot springs: There are several of both on the island.
  3. Earthquakes: Kojima is an active seismic zone.
  4. Waterfalls: Kojima is known for its many beautiful waterfalls.

Climate

Temperate, with four distinct seasons. The average temperatures in the winter and summer depends on the specific location of the island and its altitude. However, as a rough estimate, the average winter temperatures would likely be between 0 and 10 degrees Celsius (32-50 degrees Fahrenheit), and the average summer temperatures would likely be between 20 and 30 degrees Celsius (68-86 degrees Fahrenheit).

Fauna & Flora

Kojima has a mix of deciduous and evergreen trees, such as pine, oak, and cherry. The island also has a variety of shrubs and bushes, such as bamboo and camellia.   In terms of animals, Kojima has a diverse range of wildlife, including deer, wild boar, raccoon dogs, and various species of birds, such as eagles, cranes, and herons. The island also has a variety of marine life, such as fish, dolphins, and whales, found along its coastlines.   As for insects, there are a variety of species, such as beetles, butterflies, and cicadas. These insects play an important role in the ecosystem, serving as pollinators and food for other animals.
