Season 6, Episode 7: "A G-Rank Mission" Report

General Summary

Isra and the Androids of Safarae gathered together, finally prepared to take on the Devourer's Nest, and snapped into motion. After removing the Skinny Man resting on Rastelviri, the dragon was beset by confusion, uncertain of the level of hatred he'd shown for Isra and the Dream Team, and decided to trust her -- for now. He agreed to join them in battle against the Devourer, who he claimed an enemy, and took off to distract him, leaving Isra and her hunting party to sneak into the Nest.   They dashed in, dodging flora and fauna as the forest came alive, having sensed the terrible conflict between two great beasts, and eventually pushed their way to the center. There they found the slumbering Girl Thrice-Abandoned, the Hollow Blade nestled in her hands, with a number of ladybugs about her person. Sensing an intelligence in their surroundings, Isra gingerly took the Blade, which she passed to her melee striker, Barton, just as the Devourer came barreling through the trees -- with Rastelviri nowhere to be seen.   Against the mighty Kaiju, weeks of preparation came to the forefront, as Androids dipped in and out of combat to defend their Shepherd. Barton and Niche took the majority of the beast's direct ire, using their respective strength and speed to survive, while Gillby, Shayek, and Cornelius acted as support. Their combined effort allowed Isra to move with ease, weakening the creature with a frightening combo of exhaustion spells, followed up by an adamantine net that entangled the creature, leaving it solidly on the back foot.   At that moment, a crate came barreling through the atmosphere, crashing next to Isra, bearing the logo of House Terris. The crate (first seen in A Longshot) contained an upgrade to the Astral Flintlock, which allowed it to take on two additional forms, which Isra put to immediate use. The Kaiju rained acid blood onto the battlefield, trying with all its might to break free of its chains, only to be shot down and reduced to ashes.   As the aspect fell, the miasma surrounding Safarae vanished, and the Forge was seen plainly in the sky. Cromwell, Entity, the Order of the Scourge, and Vaughn Blackblood all landed on the planet to offer support, and the Androids of Safarae enjoyed the fruits of their victory.   With a laundry list of people to greet, Isra first chose to engage with the Girl, who did not speak a common language, but was able to speak telepathically. In her mind, Isra found an ancient being, who had lived on Safarae even before the coming of the First Ones. She seemed curious that Isra would speak for Carrot and Tesin (who she later recognized to be Ma-Ma), but was eventually convinced that she was allowed to return to Night.   However, their conversation took a stark turn when the Girl mistakenly identified Isra as Lily Sparrow, sensing the energy of her Mantle. The line of explanation that followed led Isra to some grave understandings of the universe, and eventually to her ascension above the Infinite Line -- as she realized that some aspect of Tyrnog existed at the whim of a great creature's imagination, and not as a result of cosmic forces.   After this revelation, the Girl bid her farewell, and Rastelviri returned from hiding -- fairly wounded, but relatively unharmed. He called Isra "little sister", and congratulated her on a hunt well done. As his parting words, he offered to aid her in the hunt once more, should she ever find herself at war with the Jester -- the thief that stole his birthright, the Blade of Rastel.   This accord triggered a second ascension, empowering the Mantle of the Shepherd, granting Isra the ability to select three "sheep dogs" -- wardens of the flock, who would keep her people safe when she was away. Despite Gillby's pouting lip, she chose Cromwell, Denerin, and Merrygold, who immediately sensed a change within.   Last, Isra followed Cromwell to a lone tree in the forest, surrounded by its broken sisters, where Helen waited. While she had come to speak of many things, she was drawn to Isra's passing of the Infinite Line, and recognized its incompleteness. She pushed, showing her images of Rufus Geldenleaf, Maximus Erebus, and the sums that made up their parts, drawing Isra to a greater conclusion -- that all of existence, both Tyrnog and the Other Side, existed in a dream state of a split mind, separated by some cosmic wedge that was the Mirror. Each iteration of the Entwined Infinities was but a godly REM cycle, and the gods themselves were simply masters of this dogma -- able to bend the dream to their own will, and bind an aspect of reality to their power.   Overcome with knowledge, Isra decided to rest -- putting off her audience with Vaughn and Derrak -- and left with Helen at her side, to celebrate her people's hard-earned victory.
