Infinite Line Physical / Metaphysical Law in The Centurion's Riddle | World Anvil

Infinite Line

The Infinite Line is a common term used by scholars to refer to the threshold upon which a divine being can begin the path to true godhood, and to classify certain types of information guarded by the Monad. Outsiders that have crossed the Infinite Line are often capable of creating massive demiplanes that embody their ideals, and can edit the laws of the universe, whereas mortals with this trait embody a wealth of attention from the Great Beyond, and are privvy to forbidden information. As a guidline, Outsiders across the Infinite Line are avoided by the semi-intelligence observed in most Mantles of Power, and are policed by Pharasma to ensure a balanced ecosystem until the end of time.

Manifestation

The Infinite Line is currently a very loose definition, given the variety of ways that powerful creatures seem to rise above it, and only the gods seem capable of recognizing such creatures on sight. Although scholars often depict it using a simple line -- perhaps with an artistic flourish involving the cosmos -- it has no known sensory manifestation. Still, it is widely accepted to be a law of the universe, and is the basis of the majority of divine theory.   Of note, while creatures who cross the Infinite Line are allowed to share their forbidden knowledge with others of the same status, doing so to others -- even accidentally -- will result in the swift and immediate action of the Aeons. The creatures rarely discriminate between which party is which, often determined to destroy both the source and all affected, to avoid the spreading of information.

Localization

While the Infinite Line seemingly applies to all creatures in the universe, certain artifacts (such as the Starstone) and locations (such as the First World) seem to speed up the process when compared to other methods. However, these paths are often littered with fates worse than death, and thus few fully sane individuals would ever attempt to walk them.
