Can Do Attitude

The Dreamer guides us to the Vast, to the jungle planet of Safarae, home to the Merrytime Expedition Corporation, and some of the biggest monsters known to the stars...   Kaiju.   Isra called warning out to the hunting party behind her, following the Taradex as it fled deeper into the jungle. Vines and tree branches came crashing down, putting an extra lift into her steps as they shook the earth, but she was too invested to let the creature go now. It bled from half a dozen major wounds, spears and nets clinging to its body, its breath hot enough to burn away the moisture in the air. They'd been hunting it for two days, struggling to get through the outer plates that covered its hide.   Which was precisely why they were hunting it.   Gillby trotted up behind her, heaving on his short legs in the dry air, but she caught the spear he threw regardless. It was time to end this -- even Merrygold was flagging, unable to keep up with her pace. They weren't used to these kind of marches, or the harsh physique created by labor in the Forge. On her shoulder, Cornelius mocked them with an expression she couldn't see, but it seemed to work.   Two spears slipped between the plates, creating another stream of blood, and the Taradex roared in anger. It was limping now, its legs shaking under the weight of its massive torso. If only she were a little closer...   She'd have to risk it.   Isra let her eyes roll back into her head, and fell through reality. Her skin pricked at the ice cold nothing, space and time no longer holding her in one place, as she Skipped from the forest floor to the Taradex's back. The surrounding heat after all that cold was a system shock, but adrenaline preserved. Using her spear, Isra wedged underneath one of the damaged plates, earning a yelp from the Kaiju, and then unloaded the Astral Flintlock into the back of its head.   The Androids cheered as she pulled out her weapon -- a symbol of the Shepherd -- and the Taradex twitched, tripping over its own feet, and came crashing to the ground. Isra rolled away from it before the collision, landing in a bush of sweet berries at the base of a tree. Merrygold came to help her out, giving a quick pat on the back. Of all the Androids, he seemed to be the only one willing to throw ceremony to the wind. The rest bowed their heads as they passed, murmurs of "Shepherd" on their lips.   Cornelius: "Cheep! Cheep!" (Take that, bitch!)   Their prey wasn't the same Taradex that had attacked Cornelius, but she didn't have the heart to tell him.   Merrygold: "Well, that's done. What's next?"   Isra looked back at the corpse, examining the number of damaged plates and broken bones. Most of it would be salvageable... But not enough.   Isra: "We get you some better gear out of that thing. Then we hunt the next one."   There was a collective groan from the hunting party, and Cornelius cackled.
