Mirror Geographic Location in The Centurion's Riddle | World Anvil

Mirror

The Mirror is a mystical barrier that separates Tyrnog and the Other Side, and creates the Mirrors phenomenon on both sides. In higher dimensions, the Dream Team knows that the Mirror is actually the astral blade of Azkhrumdar, splitting the mind of the Godhead in two.

Geography

Getting to the Mirror is considered an impossible task for most, as it requires a reliable form of planar transport that will take one to the Silence Between Thoughts and Breaths (coming from Tyrnog), the Howling Wastes (coming from the Other Side), or the Void. As neither of these three locations could be considered hospitable even to immortal life, traversing these planes are the next step in the journey, during which travelers may begin to see flickers of a massive, astral wall in the distance.   The barrier never shows itself as anything more, but travelers may begin to see imperfections in the structure as they get closer, which eventually coalesce into a passage which may or may not traverse the entirety of the Mirror. Once inside, accounts begin to vary wildly, with travelers speaking of different worlds, strange creatures, cybernetic automatons, and even little Gray men. Those who survive eventually make their way to the opposite side, seeing a similar view to the one they started with, and the breadth of an alien land before them...

Localized Phenomena

Once close enough to the Mirror, the barrier manifests much like a wall of force, sharing many of the same properties, but on a scale unheard of in the common magical community. Even Skipping across the Mirror is impossible, as it blocks all forms of instantaneous travel, and spells that attempt to react with the opposite side simply fail. While practitioners can Skip to the Outer Gates or plane shift into the Void, this is considered master-class magic due interference from the Mirror, and most would consider the interim destinations not worth the trouble.

History

The Mirror is as old as the Infinity Petal, confirmed by the Dream Team in a vision from the Seer and the Faded (see All Is Lost). While somewhat ethereal in the glory days of the First World, the Mirror was soldified at the end of the Twilight War, as part of the imprisonment of Delikul (see What the Walker Stole From Me).   This mighty wall held until the rebirth of Rufus Geldenleaf, who witnessed the weakening of the barrier after centuries of plotting by Jestyr. With the help of his friends, the Kin Hunters, and the Ashen, Rufus came to know the truth of his existence, and created a new reality in which the Mirror was restored, destroying his mortal shell in the process.   As before, the Mirror has held for millennia, carefully monitored by the gods of both sides. That was until recently, when the Jester discovered a way to drill holes in the Mirror using the Eclipse Malkin on powerful Mirrors, eventually punching a hole big enough for him to slip through after the deaths of Alexander Marcus and Nicholas Carter. With the Horsemen of Abaddon summoned to the Material Plane in Tyrnog, and the Other Side ravaged by the forces of Carnival, the barrier between the sides continues to weaken — so much so that Flame in the Night simply walked through on her quest to rescue her friends from Paradise (which takes places just before the events in The Beacon at Dylath-Leen).
