Cromwell Character in The Centurion's Riddle | World Anvil

Cromwell

Father Cromwell (a.k.a. Father Crom)

Father Crom is by far the oldest Android living on the Forge, with over three centuries of information stored in his data banks. While his appearance has always been that of an older Human male, he has changed his appearance many times over the decades, to avoid the Aspis Consortium from singling him out.

He is the unofficial leader of the Children of the Forge, and the only member to regularly speak with Entity.

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

Like all Forge Wardens, Father Crom has a light, dexterous build, adept at dodging incoming plates and opening portals. Although he prefers the appearance of an old man, he does all his maintenance protocols himself, and is considered stronger than most among the Children.

Body Features

The limited supply of parts in the lower levels of the Forge has forced Cromwell to make less-than-ideal repairs throughout the years, the results of which protrude from his body in a variety of mechanical forms. Of note, he wears a lattice around the back of his skull, which aids in the functions of his inner ear, and has reinforced the joints in both of his hands.

Identifying Characteristics

Father Crom is best known for his electric-blue eyes, which glow in the dark and can see through all manner of magical deceptions. Many of the younger Children fear the sudden approach of that gaze from the shadows, which is often followed by an intense examination of potentially unsavory activities...

Physical quirks

At some point very early in his years as a slave of the Aspis Consortium, Cromwell developed a subtle twitch in his hands when challenged, which vaguely resembles the signs used to open rifts.

Apparel & Accessories

Father Crom rarely wears anything but simple grey robes, and is a creature of function over form. When Cromwell removes his robes, it is because he is freeing his legs from potential entanglement, and is prepared to fight.

Personality Characteristics

Motivation

Father Crom's sole motivation is to make the Forge a free and everlasting home for the Children. It seems he will do anything for this cause, including staying alive beyond an Android's usual lifespan, and going to war with the Aspis Consortium. Of note, he let Isra take the fall during the early days of the revolution (as was her wish) so that he could stay and lead his people on the Forge.
