Night Geographic Location in The Centurion's Riddle | World Anvil

Night

Night is the realm of the Elder Numen Carrot and his bride, Tesin Movahesh. It is the spiritual opposite of Day, and is cosmically-opposed to all sources of light.

Geography

Although nothing in Night is set in stone, the realm often takes the form of an overgrown forest, broken by clearings of wicked thorns, pitch-black rivers, and yawning caves. Given the pervasive darkness, it is very easy to get lost without a guide, but no denizen of Night would do so without their lord's permission.

In the center of Night, a clearing of cultivated flowers marks the personal domain of the Lord of Night. It is where the Numen spends the majority of his time, save for when he must manifest in the Darkness Engine of Ezorod.

Fauna & Flora

The creatures of Night are a variety of magical beasts and umbral undead, many of which are associated with the primal aspects of a forest in shadow. These servants of the dark love to hunt any mortal souls that might wander into their realm, and often take part in the Wild Hunt when they hear the call.

The flora of Night are more of the same -- sentient flowers capable of swallowing a man whole, riddled with all manners of natural poisons and their antidotes. The fruit born of the apple trees in Night are said to be some of the sweetest, although few have ever enjoyed their flavor and lived to tell the tale.

Natural Resources

Every resource harvestable from Night is in some way attuned to the powers of darkness, and would be welcome in any ritual or craft that required such traits. For example, one might desire to make a darkened bow from the wood of Night's ancient trees, or to craft an umbral poison from the mushrooms in its boughs. Rumor states that the flowers in the Lord of Night's garden have a variety of magical properties, but their secrets have never been shared with mortals.

Despite common associations with shadow and evil, the essence of Night has no such restrictions, and thus its bounties can be used for either good or evil.
