Season 10, Episode 3: "Riley" Report
General Summary
In the middle of Mist's update about the reality of Paradise, Riley revealed that she was in fact the grandmother of Bast — and the entire table broke into a clamoring for answers. Once the room could settle, Riley gladly summarized the story told by the Codex of Whispers as she had seen it, including the pieces that Valka never finished. Of Sara's disdain of Bast, and Chang Lu's protectiveness, and Foly's desire for peace. All of which came to a head in the battle Mist saw in Paradise, where Sara and Bast went head-to-head to determine the true owner of Azkhrumdar.
Their duel and the battle ended at the same moment, as Bast was forced to touch upon his patron Crow to survive, and an infection spread through the boy and the ax, and through it the weapon's connection to the World Tree at the metaphysical center of Norn. Countless died, and Valka was horifically maimed — the very sight of which caused Bast to flee up the mountain seen in All Is Lost, leading to the creation of the Entwined Infinities. The Petal had been frozen ever since, trapped in a mystical winter where time flowed but nothing seemed to change...
When asked about the Hoppers that had come from Norn to the Infinity Petal, this prompted a larger lecture about the current conflict, and all of the various players in that game. Lockette was careful to record the audio for future use (see Who's Who in Whoville?), and the group was astonished to learn the depth of the war they had waded into — now coming to a head at the Boneyard.
While Gonjo wished to touch on that specifically, they were interrupted by the arrival of Zeylan Trinipol, who claimed that something was awry on the docks. Then a quake pounded through Ezorod, and the conference room split to protect their various interests, with the Dream Team going to handle the threat.
They found a commandeered merchant ship pouring out Wither Wraiths and Doom Heralds — the latter of which began to coat the Mercenary's blades with their essence as he defeated them. Although deadly to the citizens, they themselves did not present an immediate danger to the crew, until one of the Wraiths revealed its true form, and the Centurion drove his spear into MaMa's side. Slicing Wither into her veins, sending her deep into the second stage of the corruption, the group leapt into defensive manuevers — just as Niko entered through Ezorod's portal with Atalanta and their son, and Tesin Movahesh and Skittles came to their aid.
As the citizens made their retreat into the bubble city's depths, the party grew bolder in their attack patterns, with MaMa eventually resorting to summoning the Wild Hunt. This gave the Centurion pause, causing to him fleeing back out into the sun, although the Erlking and his knights never answered the call of Tesin's horn...
Worried that they were missing the attack's true intention, but unable to determine their secondary objective after a sweep of the station, the group reconvened for a quick talk. Niko, having been invited by Cromwell to Montressor, accepted MaMa's offer to train up the station security — especially those who had grown lazy under the umbrella of Qwerty's genius. Although Mu Draconis had her own troubles with the man, she was content at Cromwell's suggestion to let him live for now, and serve as best as he could until the arrival of End Day.
Then the conference resumed, with Lockette largely leading the meeting with a list of questions. Gonjo and Riley answered to the best of their ability, aiming to be helpful, and snatched moments to flesh out the beginnings of their assault of the Boneyard — which they feared would be concluded one way or another in the next three days. But Gonjo promised them aid, showing them a vision of their allies, which included Rastelviri, Ceres, Gillby and his tribes, the Children of the Forge, and (conditionally) Mandarb and Caesura — among the other Deaths who had chosen not to follow Charon. He promised others as well, but claimed that he would need time to confirm their allegiance... And then Lockette's phone rang, with a call from friend.
Crow's voice boomed on the other end:
Crow: "Say goodbye to Dr. Lebowitz."
Then the call ended.
