End Day Myth in The Centurion's Riddle | World Anvil

End Day

End Day is a recurring event in the Infinity Petal that marks an intersection in the Entwined Infinities, specifically at the point where the two Infinities touch. While generally unheard of by the occupants of the Petal, the phenomenon is discussed at great lengths by scholars in the know, and its approach is tracked carefully by gods and Walkers alike, as it marks an upcoming warp in the fabric of reality.

Occurrence

The most common misconception of End Day comes from the singular implication in its name, especially for researchers of the Entwined Infinities. Following the linear paths of destiny, some believe that End Day occurs two times each cycle — once as Abeir-Toril crumbles into the world that will one day birth Golarion, and again as the latter realm collapses back into the First World.

Others claim that there are four, as it is possible for cycles to end and repeat at End Day, and thus one Infinity does not always bleed into the other.

While more accurate, both claims are incorrect: there is only one End Day each cycle, the events within happening all at once, with several opportunities for any time-bound entity to enter it. Albus Rickette theorized that End Day likely begins anew as soon as it ends, existing in a realmspace that exists outside the rest of the Petal, and marks the true passage of the Iterations. It is for this reason that many mark the creation of the First World as the official "beginning" of each cycle, as it is synonymous with this realmspace's collapse and subsequent rebirth.   In this Iteration there are three known conflicts occurring at End Day — a battle taking place between a mortal Rufus Geldenleaf and Jestyr in the Anauroch desert, a brawl between Scourge and a coalition of the Ashen and Kin Hunters on a floating island near the base of Vulreach, and duel between various factions inside the tower itself — including Crow and their Anticipations, the Dark Walkers, Higri and Regulus, and the Dream Team.

Location

End Day always takes place in the Tower of Vulreach, as it is responsible of the underlying System function that facilitates its existence: Delete. To be the Vulreach Admin during End Day is an enviable position indeed, as one may tweak what is Deleted or saved, although it has been confirmed that ROOT still maintains some control.   It is unknown if the other Towers have their own associated events, but the Insensate Sodality has known for years that the other three (Geldenleaf Tower, the Tower of Saints, and the XS Pierce) are completely unaffected by the cleansing of the realms.

Cause

At an astral level End Day marks the exhaustion of the Godhead, as the weight of memory presses upon them and the dreamer becomes self-aware. This lucidity often leads to the discovery of hidden trauma by Bast, or is invoked as a defense mechanism when Crow and their Anticipations come too close to escaping their prison. The phenomenon's time-broken nature could be attributed to insanity, although some scholars point to the rainbow mist commonly seen in visions of Bast's life on Norn.
