System Organization in The Centurion's Riddle | World Anvil

System

The operating system of Azkhrumdar, also known simply as the System, is a complicated metaphysical construct that involves millions of programs joined together into a gestalt consciousness. While initially designed to serve as a guide for the wielder of an ancient weapon, the System's duties now expand out to the entirety of the Infinity Petal, and is largely responsible for the state of existence within the Petal today.

Structure

The System is broken up into at least four major groups, named after the entities that rule over their respective portion of the process tree. Starting with the users and ending with critical systems, the sections are LEAF, BRANCH, TRUNK, and ROOT. While there are thousands of LEAF programs and hundreds of BRANCH programs, there is only a single TRUNK and ROOT. Together these processes are capable of operating the day-to-day mechanisms of the System, but they are forbidden from making decisions that would affect reality as a whole.   This is the purpose of the Admins that control access to the System, and that can communicate with parts of the System directly. An Admin may control multiple LEAF nodes, but there is (in theory) only a single Admin per BRANCH, TRUNK, and ROOT nodes. Recent events have complicated this hiearchy however, with Kauma Gonjodonque serving as the official System Admin in control of ROOT, but having given limited ROOT-level access rights to both the Centurion (in return for the Codex of Whispers — see When?) and Sara No-Name (who was disguised as Lily Sparrow — see Apotheosis).
