A Walker is an honorific given to someone who has traversed more than one Iteration of the Entwined Infinities, and has managed to retain information about the past after End Day. Such individuals are typically above the Infinite Line, and possess abilities that defy what is commonly thought to be possible (e.g. Skipping).

History

The title of Walker was likely passed around long before written history, back when the Infinities were but a single cycle. While Rufus Geldenleaf and Jestyr were technically the first to traverse these cycles intact, most consider Lalantha and Tommen to be the first Walkers, specifically on Tyrnog and the Other Side respectively.   Myth states that the Mantle of the Walker and the Mantle of the Dark Walker formed up around them after repeated successes, and represented the little motes of energy they were unable to pull fully back into themselves. Over time, others found that they could take up the Mantles, which slowly formed the orders of the Walkers in Light in the First World, and the Dark Walkers in the Void. While these organizations share a common foundation, the two are completely at odds, and often kill the other on sight.   Some Walkers believe that the respective Mantles adapt to those who have worn them the most, which would explain the prominent presence of the ghosts that haunt the Dark Walker Mantle, and its opposite Mantle's affinity for hopping sides — seeking the balance often preached by Raemus.

Cultural Significance

A Walker is traditionally offered a measure of respect among those above the Infinite Line, as maintaining knowledge after End Day is about as difficult as Hopping, and draws the ire of the Monad. Even those below the Line often step lightly around Walkers, as many fables mention their legendary deeds in passing, and few end well for those who get in the way of their Path. The Cult of the Elder Mythos is an exception to the rule, as their members consider most Walkers with absolute contempt, as they are retaining energy that they believe should be fed to their gods.

Notable Holders

Outside of the core history, other notable Walkers include the creator gods — Vic, Nazeema, the Ringmaster, and the Maskmaker — as well as many of their lesser allies and children, such as Chess, Raemus, Delikul, and Kesil. While the current Dark Walker is Thunder in the Mist , the current Walker in Light is yet known (but presumably on the Other Side).
