Vic Character in The Centurion's Riddle | World Anvil

Vic

This information is exclusive to those who have crossed the Infinite Line. Speaking of the knowledge herein will trigger interference from the Monad, or his Other Side equivalent. Proceed with caution.
Vic is a member of the Creator Gods, with domain over the aspect of Soul in Tyrnog. He is the father of the first generations of "mortals" — which are closer to Fey than the modern definition — including Lalantha, the Explorer, and Raemus. This makes him the grandfather of the Mourning Lord, the Owls of Dylath-Leen, Carrot, and their other, countless relatives.   In the circles that know of him, Vic is considered the founder of Groundskeeping, and an unaligned Walker of the Entwined Infinities. Currently, the ghost of Vic can be found across the Material Plane, his essence fading from existence a little more each day, as the terror of End Day approaches.

Personal history

Vic is one of a few entities whose existence at the beginning of each Infinity is all but guaranteed. After the second Infinity's End Day, Vic's scattered energy fully coalesces back into the First World. There, he forges a pact with Rufus Geldenleaf and Nazima to steward all of creation through the aspects of Mind, Body, and Soul. It is unknown is Vic retains all of his memories at the forging of this pact, or if that information returns to him over time. Regardless, those memories do seem to return, and thus Vic's honored Walker status.   While it varies from iteration to iteration, it seems that Vic and Rufus generally come to odds over the foundation of the universe, resulting in terrible storms that wrack the First World and undo their latest cosmic designs. Nazima is fractured during this timeframe, resulting in the many splinters of the goddess that exist to this day, which historically worsens the in-fighting, and leads to the abandonment of the First World altogether. The Material Plane is the ultimate result of this iterative warmongering — a blend of the wishes of all three Creator Gods, and whatever mortals that were able to cling from the shards of one existence into the next.   It is unknown what role Vic had in the Twilight War, as he is practically missing from the history of Abeir-Toril until the era of the first Infinity's End Day. A popular opinion is that Vic spent much of this time Hopping, seeking an answer to the conflict with Rufus outside his sphere of influence.   Due to the warping of time, although the System contains irrefutable proof that Vic and the Ashen were allies, evidence of his contributions are contradictory. Vic is seen again in the annals of the Zodiac Braves, acting as an on-and-off again ally and supplier, and scraps of evidence implicate him in the tragedy that created Bane's Children.   Known only to a rare handful, Chess was forced to push Vic and a prominent shard of Zima through the Sideways Steps not long after this era, as part of a larger plot orchestrated by Rufus Geldenleaf and the Centurion. This cataclysmic time event created echoes through the future, pulling all remaining essences of Vic and Zima across Tyrnog and into the Material Plane. These shards of existence ultimately end up following their masters through the Sideways Steps, resulting in their perfect recreation each Infinity.   The ghosts of Vic's essence — spread primarily through his mastery of Groundskeeping — still walk the Material Plane, although sightings become rarer as time passes. Most recently, he was spotted by Neiva in the Azlanti Star Empire, as seen in Futile Resistance.
