Caesura Character in The Centurion's Riddle | World Anvil

Caesura

Caesura

Caesura is a powerful Fey mercenary employed by the Chessboard Conclave — acting as the Left Bishop, the closest officer piece to the Queen — and an off-and-on-again ally of the Dream Team. As confirmed in S10E1: "As Sheep That Have No Shepherd", Caesura is also a Systemspawn, and thus often appears at conflicts where the fate of the Infinity Petal is in danger.
This is everything I got, which isn't much relative to how long he's been alive. Basically the highlights since Golarion formed, and a little bit I was able to pick up from some of my old contacts in Day — don't ask, they died a long, long time ago.

Physical Description

Special abilities

Despite his status as a Fey, Caesura is capable of lying, and can manipulate the matter of his body seemingly at will. He is considered by his peers to be the greatest non-deity Alignmatist in existence, and in many cases rivals the raw power of the gods with his technical skill. He is capable of invoking all five Postulates without training, and can Skip all the way to the Outer Gates with but a thought. He is also one of the few non-Deaths to wield a Scythe, and is the only one of this select group not actively pursued by Pharasma.

Personal history

In the public eye, Caesura is a barely-recognized figure known only for his association with Chess and the Conclave. Even historians only speak of him starting with his participation in the Silent War, and his heroics are often misattributed to one of his fellow officers. But to those above the Infinite Line, Caesura is a complicated individual with a history nearly as old as the Petal, with a reputation for insane antics and frightening victories.   In the later days of the First World, Caesura first appears in written history under the mortal alias "Callum", an Elf from the western lands. It is unclear why he chose to take this form, or if it was even done on purpose, but his rapid rise to power and fortitude against eldritch dangers marked him as a son of a prominent Fey (later known to be Ragadahn). Although his role varies Iteration by Iteration, he often associated himself with Lalantha in her formative years, and took great interest in usurping the Creator Gods.   In this current Iteration, in perhaps the darkest turn of his story, Callum successfully convinced Lalantha to be his apprentice, and used her like a weapon against Vic and Rufus Geldenleaf. However, the two came to odds after their old friends threatened Callum's eldritch patron — a terrifying creature said to hold up an entire realm — and eventually killed the monster before he could intervene. Caesura arrived just in time to watch his master fall, and eviscerated the majority of the party before they could properly rest — separating Annabell from her arcane power and Roux from her demonic form, and absorbing both them and the remains of his patron in order to become a demigod.   As mentioned in Thaumaturgy, Lalantha was unable to find Callum afterwards and was drawn into other conflicts, including the beheading of Rufus Geldenleaf and the fall of Turin. It is believed that she met Deva during these five years, who helped train her and eventually helped her track Callum down. Deva was severely wounded in the combat (later retiring to become faculty at the Rookery), but her sacrifice allowed Lalantha the perfect strike. With his death curse, Callum bewitched Lalantha with his own mortal essence, attributing to her a great deal of his madness and the features of her fallen comrades.   Caesura did not resurface until the later days of Abeir-Toril, where he played a minor role as an enemy-turned-ally to the Kin Hunters. Although he bore the name Caesura, this reincarnation did not fully share his memories, and it is unclear what he regained before his participation at the first End Day of this Iteration.   He was born again in the Mirror of Azlant as the mortal "Docket", a mad Alignmatist that could use the Five Postulates after surviving a cruel experiment at the hands of his birth father. Like the rest of his village, he was fooled by Ulder-Keth and treated its alias "Yeti" as a mentor, and by its request acted as a guide and protector to the Knights of Dawn. He was instrumental in uncovering the Great Old One's true identity, but suffered greatly in revealing the secret.   While the details of his fate after the Mirror disappeared are murky, House Terris intelligence agents were able to confirm that he went to the Dark Tapestry with help from Chess, where he successfully cleared the influences inside of him and became Enlightened. This is where he seems to have picked up a bitter rivalry with the terrible Moscaroth, and gained the friendship of both Chess and the Wilted Monarch.   At some point after these events but before formally joining the Chessboard Conclave, Caesura and Vaughn Blackblood got into a violent disagreement, and Caesura crippled the Demon from the waist down by severing his spinal cord with a Scythe.   Caesura first appeared to the Dream Team just before the destruction of the Jasper, where he aided in their escape by holding back Alexander Marcus. He would later assist them in several adventures, granting them visions when he thought prudent (see the series starting with Who?), but most recently in their effort to recover Isra from the Boneyard.

Social

Family Ties

Caesura is one half of the mysterious bond that he shares with his twin sister Helen (also known as Entity, the machine god of the Forge). He is the legitimate son of Ragadahn, and thus the grandson of Amphisbaena, although he claims no allegiance to the Eldest, the Devil, or the Mourning Lord. Although unrelated to his true form, Caesura's reincarnation as "Docket" (as he was known in the Mirror of Azlant) was the son of Higri, a mortal manifestation of the Songbird.
