Carboth Desert
At the heart of Tarien, sheltered from the rains by mountains on three sides and the dry hills of the Darien Plain on the fourth, lies a blasted land of sand and rock. Temperatures here routinely climb past unbearable during the day and drop to bone chilling under Verdun's light.
With a single source of reliable water in the holy Silver River and the occasional thunderhead that climbs over the mountains that share the desert's name, there is life, no matter how sparse. Great cacti, storing water in their huge trunks, line the river and small rodents make their homes among them. Insects and reptiles - nearly all of them deadly and venomous, make up the bulk of the fauna further out among the rocks. The vultures that circle on thermals are the only visible birds.
It is in this crucible that the Dharja were forged. Ask any of them and the would have it no other way.
