The Barrens
A dry and barren stretch of wasteland which few people call home. Those who do are harsh and brutal as the land upon which they live. Once lush, the barrens were abandoned decades ago after a brutal civil war broke out in the region, leading to the destruction of much of the infrastructure in the area as well as most of the populated places. Some few living towns are scattered about, either highly guarded by well paid and well equipped personnel, or ruled by brutal gang leaders who treat the town as a kingdom of their own. Others remain unpopulated, burned out and left to decay along with the locals who use them as meager shelter from sun and weather.
The people living herein are a tough, resilient, and crafty folk who only survive by force of will or pure luck. Some have found ways to work the damaged land and grow small plots of food for their families or towns or fish in the Sea of Lost Power. Others trade for goods from towns or cities on the planes, or travel the railway to cities to work and purchase goods. But some have found other means of survival.
