Hamonnet Duchy

The Hamonnet Duchy is a Duchy in the Empire made up of four counties, Begner County, Theobald County, Torpin County and Ernbron County. The duchy itself is part of the Vierfort Province and it is mainly focused on economic development, resource extraction, and trade though its lands and the River Lionel. This focus has led to its runing Nobility becoming fabulously rich, but it has become militarily lacking, and less than zealous when it comes to religion, which creates tension between them and the much more militarilly capable Oakheart Duchy to the West.

The ruler of the Duchy, Duke Malerius Hamonnet, is the product of generations of unchallenged economic development, a short overfed noble who has lost touch with the world, and only understands money and his court. Under his unwatchful eye, corruption and bribery has escalated in the ruling class, with many individuals such as Lord Thadeus Ctiltlof and Lady Alberta Rossfar amassing gigantic fortunes.

This balance of power however has lately been challenged by Arch Inquisitor Volis Heartbrand, who has established himself in Rivershore as the highest Inquisitorial authority. He has brought the previously neutered churches together and fought against the stranglehold on power imposed by the Nobility. This dispute has reached a boiling point with the arrest of Godfrey Ctiltlof, son of the rich Lord Thadeus Ctiltlof, on charges of herecy, facing execution. With rumors of Eclipse being crutial witnesses to the trial, the future of the duchy might come down to the final decision of the Duke.

External Threats:

Being flanked on the East by the high peaked mountains of the Tolhera's Spine mountain range, and on the North by the River Lionel, gives the Duchy a very defencible position, and easy access to trade and large scale reinforcements from the Empire Capitol of Exelnar, and other settlements.

The greatest threat to the Duchy currently is the militaristic Oakheart Duchy to the West, with whom they have historically been at odds with, coming to small scale scirmishes and wars, and establishing the Devas Midpoint as a neutral territory between their borders. Soldiers of the Oakheart Duchy have been spotted scouting in Hamonnet territory, and amassing at the border between the duchies.

To the South, over the Bloodpeak Ridge, the Greenskin Gruumsh Clans occupying the Kriegrich Plateau are constantly growing in numbers and power, and it seems only a matter of time until raiding parties are spotted in Robin Outpost and Exan Outpost. A small grouping of Ogres and Goblins has also been spotted near Karak Drotha, but have only launched small scouting raids that were easilly repelled.

    The Razing of Vernoff
    Disaster / Destruction

It is common knowledge in the Torpin County that the city of Vernoff was invaded by a gnoll hoard that came from the Laughing Forest. The information was repressed by the local barons so rumors and stories haven't developed yet. But it is known that the Fellfinders are the ones who started telling the story to some people in Creekfall. This event, and spreading of its knowledge led to the beginning of the War of Vernoff.

The participants in the meeting were, the Fellfinders, Duke Malerius Hamonnet, Lady Alberta Rossfar, Archmage Nosfrit, Archpriest Saaqid Alisma, Grandmaster Siegmar, Archinquisitor Volis Heartbrand and Tarzin Sylrrow, who took notes and kept the meetings agenda.

    First Mission to Vernoff
    Military action

After being contacted Osanna, telling them that she and Inquisitor Noctis Aurelia were trapped in the dungeon under the castle in Vernoff, the Fellfinders were tasked with going, scouting, and retrieving the two individuals, and returning them to Rivershore. Remarkably, the fellfinders managed to get through the Laughing Forest and into Vernoff. There they discovered that some of the cities population is being hidden away by the Syndicate and protected, and the gnolls roam the streets picking off civilians. There is also a shadow creature which takes on the form of the dead people dear to the ones looking at it, but they close not to engage it. After making their way to the dungeons, they were ambushed by a group of gnolls lead by Therrg Blackfur, a powerful gnoll leader who put up a strong fight against the party. After the battle, the Therrg's skull was crushed by a barrage of enchanted coins, however he still stood, almost killed Zekral, and was devoured by a giant hyena head, an illusion or transportation spell. No body was found, and the fellfinders immediatelly went to Rivershore with the two survivors, having succeeded in their mission and also gained valuable information about Venoff and the gnolls there.

    Battle of Vernoff
    Military action

The 4th Imperial Legion formation, led by General Tempos Cyrian and Eclipse attacked Vernoff and the Gnolls that occupied the city, who were led by Therrg Blackfur, a general of the gnoll hoards. The Legio Imperallis forces were made up of 900 Soldiers and 15,000 Guards raised from Rivershore. On the other side was the gnoll horde, tens of thousands of the savage beasts, their lines bolstered by insane cultists and monsters from the darkest nightmares imaginable.

The initial battle for the walls was fierce, and the guard vanguard, led by Eclipse managed to take the walls with a final push. As such, the army managed to make a large scale push into the city, taking every street and house and cleansing it of the demonic corruption. It is widely recognised that the main phase of the battle would not be as successful, and the walls could not be taken as well, were it not for the initial contributions of Eclipse. However, during the second phase of the battle, a ritual was said to be channeled by the gnolls in caves beneath the Hillside district.

As the blood from the battle rushed towards the caves, Eclipse charged in supported by the Steelpick Clan dwarves that had come from Karak Drotha. They pushed through the streets and slaughtered all in their paths, making their way in to the caves. Close behind them followed Arch Inquisitor Volis Heartbrand with his retinue. What exactly happened in those caves is not known, but it is said that Eclipse defeated Therrg, and whatever horrible rituals they were doing, in the depths of the earth.

Therrg was leading the forces of the Gnolls when Eclipse arrived in Vernoff at the head of the Legio Imperallis. He was found in the depths of the caves beneath the Hillside District, taking part in some horrible ritual, and was engaged by Eclipse. He was a formidable foe, and the battle raged fiercly. In the end, the dagger of Fen was able to pierce the creature's spine, which she followed up by slicing his throat open for good measure.

In the aftermath of the battle, as all the walls were taken, and the Gnolls and Hyenas were in tunnels that could only surface in the city, there was a wholesale slaughter. The streets ran red with gnoll blood, and tens of thousands of gnolls died. The liberation of the city and the death of the gnolls in celebrated on the 320th day of the year, in the Day of the Broken Fang.
