Arch Inquisitor Rank/Title in Nainoxia | World Anvil

Arch Inquisitor

The Arch Inquisitors numbers are 30 at most through the empire and hold incredible power and influence both within the empires bureaucracy and the people that live in it. As such, a position with so much power needs to be safeguarded against those who would abuse it. To this end there are only two ways to become an Arch Inquisitor which are linked to the types of Inquisitors that they were before.
  1. Vasis Inquisitors need to gain the attention of a Vasis Arch Inquisitor who will declare them as their successor and at their death the appointment will be viewed by the High Inquisitor and if he accepts it then the Inquisitor in question is raised to the rank of Arch Inquisitor and given the Inquisitorial base where the recently passed Inquisitor resided.
  2. Errantis Inquisitors need to prove themselves to the High Inquisitor through their actions in the field. If they do so and there is space for Errantis Arch Inquisitors then they will be appointed one in a ceremony and given increased power and access to all the knowledge of the Empire. Errantis Arch Inquisitors do not declare a successor.
As a result of this, the number of Arch Inquisitors remains where it is, and they all are exceptionally powerful individuals with extrajudicial power and the ability to ignore the law if they believe it serves their purpose better. They also have the support, and fear of the people behind them, as they are the symbol of their protection against the evil and the corrupt, and they have proven time and again that they are the safest line of defense against the evils that threaten the Empire.

Qualifications

Being an accomplished Inquisitor.

Requirements

To become an Arch Inquisitor, one must first be an Inquisitor and have proven himself to a Vasis Arch Inquisitor enough for them of them to pick him as their successor or have proven themselves time and again in the position of an Erantis Inquisitor so much so that the High Inquisitor notices them and decides they should be raised in rank. In a case of a Vasis, the decision is then taken to the High Inquisitor, who checks it and if he agrees with the decision then he confirms it, and the ceremony is held.

Appointment

The ceremony depends on the type of Inquisitor. For Vasis Arch Inquisitors there will be a large appointment ceremony in the base of the Inquisitor where the Emperor and the High Inquisitor will attend and hand the Arch Inquisitor the artifact which the previous Vasis had and officially give them the power. For an Errantis Arch Inquisitor, the ceremony is held in Exelnar with the presence of the Emperor and the High Inquisitor.

Duties

Vasis: Take care of their appointed temples or areas as any arch-priest would, protect their appointed area from all that is unholy and maintain the purity of the population. Errantis: Travel and patrol the empire, search and find the unholy abominations and bring the might of the empire upon them using their increased power to do so.

Benefits

Unrestricted access to all empire resources, ability to requisition large military units and for Vasis Arch Inquisitors a large temple in a major city.

Accoutrements & Equipment

All Arch Inquisitors are known persons within the empire, so hiding is meaningless. Therefore they usually wear the most opulent of robes or battle plate, covered with markings of purity and holy power as well as wielding artifacts of Vindicta, Empire Goddess of Vengeance.

Grounds for Removal/Dismissal

Death is the only way out of the Inquisition.

Cultural Significance

Very important as they represent the righteous blades with which the Gods smite down the corrupted and evil and keep the people safe.
