Gnolls Species in Nainoxia | World Anvil

Gnolls

Gnolls are anthropomorphic creatures that resemble a hybrid between a hyena and a human. They were first introduced into the world during the Calamity, when Yeenoghu, Demon Lord of Savagery walked the material plane. They are generally seen as kill-on-sight in the empire, as they are known to be beasts that slaughter anyone they see, and devour their flesh. However, on rare occasion it has been observed that a gnoll that is without a warband, and without constant carnage, will eventually gain a semblance of sentience and retract from their creator, as well as stopping the constant hyena-like laughter.

Life Cycle:

Gnolls are born when a hyena consumes enough flesh of intelligent creatures that it bloats, becomes unable to move, and then a few hours later gives birth to a gnoll. The newborn gnoll is half the size it will become, and grows incredibly fast in the next few days. Some gnolls, when the population of gnolls is large enough, become even larger than normal, and lead the pack. When the population is of sufficient size to draw a gaze from Yeenoghu, some gnolls are born with a small demonic presence within then, mimicking the gnolls that originally came onto the world, they are gnown as Flinds and usually wield a three headed flail to mimic their father. Gnolls do not reproduce, and instead seek to devour and provide the hyenas with corpses, in order to expand their warband.
