Cult of Yeenoghu
The cult of Yeenoghu is unlike anything else seen in Tolhera, especially compared to the worshipers of other Demon Lords. Instead of corrupting mortals and inducting them, Yeenoghu has created his own mortal races that enact his will in the material plane and worship him. The races in question are the Gnolls and the Hyenas, and they have spread like wildfire through the empire, as they are notoriously hard to eradicate.
Generally, the cults presence starts when a hyena or group of hyenas enters a new territory. If it isn't immediately dealt with, the group of hyenas will hunt the wildlife, taking the place of the natural wolves or Krenshar that exist there. When they have reached significant numbers, they will draw the attention of Yeenoghu, who will control them into being more aggressive towards intelligent creatures, and hunt closer to settlements, looking to pick off unsuspecting people, especially children as they are the most defenseless. Then after a hyena gorges itself on the flesh of an intelligent creature, it bloats and gives birth to a gnoll. The gnolls at this stage are under the influence of Yeenoghu, and so will help the hyenas catch more and more people, attacking caravans and kidnapping people from villages to have the hyenas feast. When the gnolls grow in sufficient numbers, they will separate themselves from the hyenas and form their own warbands, with the goal of gorging on human flesh and worship Yeenoghu. At this stage, any mortals deranged enough to join the warband will join. Generally, it is at this point where the warband gathers enough attention, when they are hunted by the people of the land, and eradicated. The hyenas though survive, as they are scattered through the land and much harder to find than the gnolls, and they will scour the battlefield and devour the corpses of gnoll and people alike, perpetuating the cycle and creating a new warband in a matter of days.
At this point, one of two things will happen, either specialists will be send to deal with the warband, crushing it, dealing with the corpses, and hunting down enough hyenas to not be a problem for a long time. Alternatively, if the warband causes enough carnage, Yeenoghu will send some of his favored servants, maybe wielding some artifacts of his, to attempt to create a gateway between the material plane and the Fields of slaughter, sending through a demonic servant of Yeenoghu to cause even more slaughter, however, as demons cannot survive in the material plane without a link to their realm, the demon will require a large amount of flesh to eat, and constant carnage to sustain itself. If this is successful though, the demon will lead the warband to a settlement to be taken, and from the carnage they will try to create a semi-permanent portal to the realm of Yeenoghu, and then more to another settlement and do the same, and keep going until they manage to bring Yeenoghu himself to the material plane through a portal big enough. However, this has never happened before, and given how vehemently The Empire exterminates the warbands, will hopefully never happen.
