The Great Shadow
"This world is terrible, everybody is disgusting, all of them should be gone. We will help to kill them all, to take everything for ourselves, to destroy everything for our great lord, our great king! Then he will do the work killing all the worthless, stupid, pointless, lazy gods and create a new world where there are no stupid, lazy, pointless, worthless gods. How I just can't wait for that day, but I think that day will be here very soon."
-A note left at the seat of the queen of Kemler, written by a follower of Shraenire the night before the solstice
Shraenire is a dark god of true evil, he was originally created by a wizard who wanted to experiment with making sentient constructs. After adventuring with a party of heroes for many years, him and his adventuring friends journeyed into hell to kill Asmodeus. They failed and Shraenire became a servant of Asmodeus, growing in power until he killed Asmodeus. He interacted with the material plane via controlling shadows, a power given to him by Asmodeus. He communicated with those on the material plane, giving them powers, increasing his following, forcing them to make sacrifices to him so that he could escape from the nine hells.
Naidak the dragon born was a follower who lead a spell which summoned the tarrasque out of its long slumber within
Mt. Colossus so it could kill millions, only stopped through the great meteor cast to kill it. Within the once great city of
Casrea a plague known as
The Creeping Shadow killed millions and ruined half of
Rena, all to give more power to Shraenire. In
The Solstice of Shadows, Shraenire plunged his blade into the ground and split
The World Core, causing untold chaos and the floating continents of modern Laeriss to be created. Even in the current year of 5732,
The shadow legion secretly works to free Shraenire from the prison created to stop him from destroying the world, known as,
The singularity.
The domains of Shraenire are shadows, hate, injustice, revenge, and pure evil. He represents the last resort of people who truly and absolutely have nothing left for them in life, all they can do is fall to their knees and hope to carry out some sort of greater purpose in the will of Shraenire. Those who follow Shraenire usually only want power, revenge, and some sort of emotional release which will never come to them.
The book of Shraenire is simply called "The Nire." It tells a version of the legend of Shraenire where the other four heroes are terrible delusional idiots who only succeed with the help of Shraenire. Instead of accidentally having his friends be killed by Asmodeus, in The Nire, he makes an agreement with Asmodeus before him and his party go to hell. Once they reach Asmodeus he and Asmodeus team up to kill the rest of the party before he gets stronger and kills Asmodeus himself. It describes Shraenire less as a hero who wanted to help people and more as a being who realized he was greater than the world, and manipulated people to his advantage.
The symbol of Shraenire is an eclipse with a white moon contrasted by a black sun. It is a secret symbol only known by either those with knowledge of
The shadow legion, or those who are in
The shadow legion. It is commonly used by people in the legion to communicate hidden messages to each other.
The tenets of Shraenire are:
- Worship only Shraenire and always Shraenire
Sacrifice all you can to Shraenire
Abandon everything in life except Sharenire
Carry out all the wills of Shraenire without question
Shraenire has no holiday, the closest thing to a holiday is on the anniversary of
The Solstice of Shadows. On this day worshippers of Shraenire meet in big underground groups or at
The Black Fortress to converse about their future plans and commune with Shraenire in
The singularity.
The goal of Shraenire is to completely take over the planar-verse and kill all the gods. Once all the gods are dead the entire planar-verse will collapse, allowing Shraenire to become like the
Vallusios of a new planar-verse. The difference being that
Vallusios started out as an unaligned energy entity, while Shraenire would start as an evil aligned conscious being. In this new world of Shraenire, everybody would be immortal and love him without question and he could watch as their benevolent, un-killable deity. They would all be exactly the same in every conceivable way without any sort of differences or any sort of reason to ever dislike Shraenire in any way at all.
