54401 (2000 LM)

This unassuming small NEO is the current long term home of nearly all the nuclear waste produced during humanity's switch from unsustainable to sustainable forms of power. It was filled after the construction of the first orbital ring, after which hoisting nuclear material out of the gravity well was not dangerous, and has sat, with powerful radio beacons powered by the radioactive decay, nearly undisturbed for the last 160 years.
This asteroid constantly has multiple telescopes and rangefinders tracking it, and it colliding with a planet or settlement would be incredibly deadly. While it has been proposed to drop it into the sun, the large mass of the asteroid makes this expensive, and the current solution is seen as good enough.

Geography

A small, roughly oblong rock, like nearly every asteroid. Small metallic objects can be seen on the surface, these are the control and defense systems of the asteroid. It is in a highly stable orbit, and as far as computer can predict, will not hit any planet or known planetoid ever. It is in an orbit, however, which brings it extremely close to mars. For this reason, the PDRM has long fought with the UN to lower that part of the orbit closer to the sun, but the UN refuses as it believe that if the PDRM establishes an engine there, it could use it as a WMD.
