General Summary

Moren 1 Snowdeep 834EA

Pōtiki, Jodariel Balakin, Selestine Ignasia and Harthe found themselves in the Rouvray Prison beneath the city of Rouvray, wind blowing through the barred windows looking out to Albious Bay and dampness trickling down the walls. The woman prisoner glared at Pō and yelled at her "You killed Feyrith Olodi what the hell did he do to you? He was just minding his own business trying to win back Davros Brynwold!" Pō asked her if she meant the gravekeep in Millfield and that he was already dead and he was trying to kill someone. The woman looked confused and said he wouldn't do that. The male prisoner across the way yelled at the woman that if she just left the dead alone she wouldn't be in jail. She yelled back that if he kept his trap shut she wouldn't be in jail. Pō told the woman she was a shit and she shouldn't fuck around with the dead it makes them evil and that they didn't regret killing Feyrith and they were glad she was in prison. She yelled back that it was harmless. The man and woman then proceeded to continue yelling abuse at each other. Harthe and Jodi picked up something between them but ignored it. Harthe recognised the man to be his mentor Willie Wiley and the woman to be Eloise Hooper, one of the barmaids at The Drunken Pilgrim Inn in Millfield. Harthe tried to send a message to Wiley but got no response. He tried again and still got no response but noticed a slight flicker of light in the bars of the cell.   Glynna Willowbank asked what the party wanted to do and suggested she could organise Wiley's transfer into the interrogation room so that they could talk to him. They agreed and Glynna went to talk to the guards and negotiated for her to be able to keep guard of the room instead of them with Harthe's help on persuading them. The guards took Wiley out and handcuffed him and transferred him to the interrogation room, locking him to the table and left while Glynna stood by the door. Wiley looked confused at the group and asked who they were. Harthe didn't drop his disguise but started talking with his normal voice and said Wiley knew him. Wiley looked closer and asked 'Harthe?' recognising his voice. Harthe asked why he was in prison. Wiley told him he was originally arrested for tax evasion but the evidence was planted. Harthe expressed surprise and Wiley laughed saying that it wasn't necessarily untrue but they didn't have true evidence and it was planted because he hadn't toed the line with the Nuvar Merchants' Guild and refused to join their ranks. He then told them that after his place was tossed during his arrest, they found other evidence for the charge of harbouring illicit magic users. Harthe asked where things were at with his case, whether he was waiting for a court date or what. Wiley said he didn't know. Harthe asked if they could get him out of there and Glynna coughed and advised against it. Harthe suggested he could try find counter-evidence. Pō asked if anyone had tried to kidnap him. He said he wasn't aware of any attempts to kidnap him and that the prison was pretty secure. Pō told him to be on his guard because they had reason to believe people were after him to mind-control him. They then asked him if there were other illicit magic users than Harthe and whether he knew if they were in trouble or had been kidnapped and/or mind-controlled. He said there were others but he didn't know if they were in trouble. Harthe then asked if he knew any of them but Wiley said no because it was better to keep everyone disconnected and unaware of each other. Harthe asked if there was anything in his old shop that he might not want found. Wiley told him that when he was there being arrested the authorities were pretty quick to turn the place over but he had managed to stash away in a ceiling nook an item that he had been studying that he thought might still be there but he didn't know what it was exactly but it seemed vaguely magical. He said that one of his associates had managed to intercept it from some bandits in Chambon. Pō made a gesture with their hands indicating the size and shape of the other artifacts they had found and whispered 'was it it this shape?'. Wiley looked surprised and said 'yes'.   They thanked him and Harthe asked if there was anything else they could do to help him. He said if they could get Eloise moved to a different cell would be great and he might actually get some peace and quiet and be able to sleep. Pō asked about her and her magic abilities and if she was raising people from the dead. He told them yes she was a necromancer. They asked if she was one of the illicit magic users. He said not exactly as she had trained at Taesai Academy but her necromancy was illicit and she wasn't exactly part of his business network. They asked if he had trained her. He said he'd helped train her in some magic but not necromancy. They asked who taught her necromancy but he said he didn't know, she would have been taught in secret and no one outs themselves as necromancers. Pō asked if she could do magic where she is now and he said no one could do magic in Rouvray prison. Pō seemed satisfied with this. There was then a knock on the door from one of the guards and they entered the room and told them their time was up. They then transferred Wiley back to his cell. Pō warned him as they were leaving not to trust anyone. He assured them that he wouldn't have made it this far in life if he did. Pō asked if more guards could be assigned to the prison because they thought the Shadow Duke might be trying to get him. She said the prison was pretty impenetrable but she would see what she could do. Pō told Harthe that he might be in the safest place he could be aside from having a shitty time there. Harthe conceded that he probably was.   They then ventured back up the stairs out of the prison, Glynna thanking each of the guards as they passed. As they stepped back out of the open air, a small figure stepped out of seemingly nowhere and as the party's eyes readjusted to the light, Harthe, Jodi, and Pō recognised it to be Tyna Brushgather. She addressed Glynna and said 'Heard you were back in town.' They hugged and Glynna teased 'nothing gets past you'. Tyna cryptically responded 'learned from the best. So where've you been?' Glynna told her she'd been in Beboloba. Tyna's smile dropped and she just replied 'oh'. There was a slightly awkward pause before Tyna continued, telling Glynna that it was just as well they were there as there was a situation at the castle and asking if they could talk somewhere private. She told Pō and Jodi they should come too and asked where Harthe and Shu were and asked Selestine who she was. Jodi told her she was a friend and they were all friends. Selestine shrugged. Pō told her she was a new ally. Tyna said she had a few errands to run but she'd meet everyone in an hour. Glynna told her she was staying at The Stone Ox.   Pō asked Glynna if there was a jewellery shop nearby as they needed a diamond but they were worried about being recognised. Glynna told them there was a couple of jewellery stores near the Stone Ox in Westmarket. Harthe offered to go buy the diamond on Pō's behalf as his disguise could last indefinitely. Selestine offered to come along and Pō gave Harthe the specifics of the size, colour, type and value they wanted in a diamond. As they all walked closer to the inn, Glynna pointed out a store called Idle Desire and Harthe and Selestine ventured to the store while Pō and Jodi accompanied Glynna back to her room.   In the store, Harthe still disguised as Gorn asked about black diamonds and told the shopkeeper how his son wants to be a jeweller and wanted some raw diamonds to practice on. The shopkeeper pulled a few options out but only one was an adequate size. The man was selling it for 375gp. Harthe and Selestine looked closely at it and gauged that it was probably worth around 350gp. Harthe told him it was a bit expensive, the shopkeeper replied that he paid 350gp for it and had to make some profit. Harthe sent a message to Pō over the communication pebble about the diamond and its value and cost and Pō told him to buy it. Harthe then asked the man if he had any other curious items. The man said he sold many things and asked for more specifics about what Harthe was looking for. After some discussion the man realised Harthe was looking for magical items and informed him that his business was in mundane/non-magical jewellery not magical items, apologising. Harthe and Selestine then headed back to the Stone Ox and to Glynna's home, handing the diamond to Pō who then handed him 375gp in return.   Eventually, Tyna knocked on the door and came inside. She told them about how the Sovereign Emperor Haley Cleroy was gravely ill and she suspected magic was at play and that the solution was to find out who was responsible and she believed it was someone in Haley's inner circle, but The Silver Whisperers were spread thin and had not been able to conduct thorough investigations. She glanced at Glynna with a strange look that only Harthe and Selestine noticed as it was so fast. Glynna didn't react. Tyna continued, saying that she had been spending most of her time watching movements of people at Haley's chambers, and a few of the Silver Whisperers were working at the city gates with the Rouvray Enforcers to track people's movements and record suspicious activity while others were ensuring word of Haley's illness didn't reach Chambon. She told them the importance was that peace between Cleroy and Chambon was tenuous and maintaining the peace of late had been largely due to the work of Haley and that if word got out to Chambon that she was out for the count then war might break out. She suggested the Venturers might be able to help out with investigating.    She had a sudden realisation and pulled out a small glass cube that had a small flame suspended in it. She handed it to Harthe and told him it was a gift from Bain de Soleil, nothing special or magic but Bain had seen it and thought of Harthe and knowing that Tyna was heading to Aetreas, had given it to Tyna in case she happened to run into Harthe there. Harthe thanked her and put it in his bag.   Pō expressed confusion about why she thought they would be any help. She admitted she was desperate and that they had helped a lot with the Lord Lugdon Nekovich situation in Tolyapol. Pō asked if she had any clues or leads. She told them Haley was pretty well loved and respected but her suspicions was that it was someone on the Supreme Council of Cleroy. Pō asked who would benefit from that and Harthe speculated that it could be someone from Chambon. Pō asked for more information about the situation with Chambon and Tyna told them a bit about the history of relations between Cleroy and Chambon, namely the Miraketh Empire and the dissolution of Taesai after the fall of the Xedera Kingdom and the Taesai Rebellion. She informed them that peace had been maintained by the successive Emperors of Cleroy since Albious Cleroy but Haley also had no successor which made the situation even more fraught. Harthe repeated Pō question of if any of the council had anything to gain from Haley being sick or dying. Tyna responded that if she knew that she'd probably know who was responsible. Pō asked who was on the council and Tyna listed them out, noting the four she was most suspicious of and why (Nicolai, Nym, Amnestria and Athen). Harthe asked how long Haley has been sick. Tyna said she'd been deteriorating for a year. Harthe asked if anyone had been visiting from Chambon since that time. She said not that she had ascertained. He asked about officials visiting from Chambon. She said no, only messages. Pō pressed for more information about why she was suspicious of the four council members. She admitted Amnestria was probably just weird so probably not responsible. Nicolai possibly was feeling redundant due to lack of proper war, Athen was probably interested in making a profit off war, and she was suspicious of Nym because of his role as a Spymaster, but she couldn't ascertain any personal beef with Haley as she'd been primarily keeping watch at Haley's bedside. Harthe asked if the sickness fluctuated. Tyna told him that she had been deteriorating over time and was now pretty much comatose and delirious. Clerics had been able to use high powered magic to slow the decline but not been able to stop or cure the illness. She said she believed if they found out who was responsible then they might be able to find out how to heal her.   Pō told her that they were trying to save the world so that might take priority but they were out of leads at the moment so they might be able to help if it didn't take too much time. Tyna agreed that saving the world was more important but if they could solve the situation with Haley then the Silver Whisperers would be freed up to be able to help them and they would have a powerful political ally, especially given Haley's knowledge in her role as Gisir of Foreign Affairs. Tyna asked how far the Venturers were with their quest and Glynna told her that was why she had been in Beboloba, to get more information. Tyna acted strangely and awkward again at the mention and Harthe's insight detected

. Harthe asked what she wanted them to do with the person responsible if they found them. She told them to tell her and then she could interrogate them and find out what they did and how to fix it. She told them she had to go back to her post but they should try the Council Chambers the next day as the Council was scheduled to meet the next day. She told them she would deliver some Silver Whisperers badges for them first thing in the morning so they could act as Silver Whisperers representatives and have clearance to come and go from the Chambers and conduct investigations.   After Tyna left, Glynna told the group she wondered if the Evocation artifact might be able to help by amplifying high powered restoration and healing spells to heal Haley since clerics had been able to stabilise her with high powered restoration and healing spells. She said given they already have one artifact, there was a one in seven chance the next one they found could be the Evocation artifact, she reminded them that Wiley had mentioned hiding away an item similar to the artifacts in his shop in Nuvar so it was maybe worth a try to go get the artifact and see if it was the right one especially since they needed to go get it anyway. She let them know that she had a contact in Nuvar with a teleportation circle they could use to get there and back. They decided they would go the next day and started plotting, Jodi and Pō noting they could serve as distractions while Selestine and Harthe snuck in and that it would be best while the shop was open so the owner was busy. Jodi left and got a drink from the pub downstairs.   Pō then pulled their hood over their head and went outside to the main park in Rouvray to find a tree to pray at perform their ritual to Kuzmjir to send the souls they had collected to the afterlife. As they were doing so, they faintly heard the voice of the spirit that had been accompanying Selestine whispering 'thank you'. They summoned their pact weapon and tied the black diamond to the hilt.   Harthe meanwhile, still in Glynna's home with Selestine, pulled off his gloves of thievery and handed them to her. She thanked him and asked when he wanted them back. He said she could keep them. She started rummaging through her bag for something to give him in return she pulled out a pair of emerald earrings worth 200gp that she had stolen from The Darling Trinket. She said she didn't like feeling like she owed anyone anything and told him he could just sell them if he doesn't want them. He thanked her and started playing with them. He then took off his winged boots and put on his cloak of elvenkind. At the end of the night they all found a room to sleep in for the night.

The next morning, the group got up early and headed down the stairs for breakfast. Harthe could hear a muffled conversation. He listened in for a bit while the others went on into the kitchen. Pō asked Selestine how she was feeling about everything and if she was ok with them helping out the Emperor when she had initially joined to help them with the Shadow Duke stuff. Selestine said she was fine with it and it seemed to be a noble cause although she didn't seem invested in it. Pō agreed and also said that they didn't think they'd all come together by chance and they didn't want everyone to get too distracted, but also expressed suspicion about Tyna as she had been helpful in the past but it seemed strange that they didn't have any resource to do the things that were the most important. Selestine agreed and said it was weird she was asking their group. Harthe rejoined them and sat down for breakfast and told them he'd overheard Glynna and Tyna talking and that it sounded like there was maybe some relationship tension between them but also that a lot of the Silver Whisperers network had gone quiet when going to investigate the bandit activity. They speculated why that might be, that they could have been captured or mind controlled or died. Harthe wondered if it might also be connected to the Emperor's illness. Pō philosophised about things they had learnt in their travels that more things were linked than most people realise and that they should assume things are linked rather than not linked. Harthe said they should make no assumptions at all and they started to discuss what to do for the day.   Glynna then joined them for breakfast and Pō asked her if there was a temple to Kuzmjir in town. Glynna told them yes there was one in the block south of the fountain in the Temple Ward. Jodi asked if there was also a temple to Unnia. Glynna said that the temple to Unnia was in the block east of the fountain in the Temple Ward so close by Kuzmjir's temple. Pō then asked her about the magic to get to Nuvar. She said she could get them to Nuvar via teleportation circle. They decided they would do investigations at the Council Chambers first and then go to Nuvar that night to The Rude Spittoon. Pō said it was a good plan if they don't all die. Harthe said even if they died they would need a drink at the end of the day. Pō said if they died she would send them to where their souls belong and they would not get a drink. Harthe reminded them that his soul would go into his ring if he died. Pō said she didn't like that ring.   Glynna handed them each a Silver Whisperers badge she'd got from Tyna that morning. Jodi asked if that meant they were now Silver Whisperers. She told her, no they just meant they were contracted by the Silver Whisperers. They asked if the council meeting was open to the public. She said no which led them to ask about what the rules were for their investigating and if there were any boundaries. She said if there was any issues 'we' will deal with it. Harthe raised an eyebrow and asked her what she meant by 'we'. She tried to cover it up but he pressed her on it. She revealed that she had founded the Silver Whisperers but she was no longer part of the organisation but still had associations with them. Pō asked why they don't report to the Spymaster of Cleroy. She explained they were independent and international. Pō asked what their mission was and she told them their main purpose was to root out corruption. Jodi told her they could root out corruption at the Pyat'krug. Harthe asked her if she'd worked with them, she reminded them that she advised them on occasion and had left them at Maksary to go do so recently. Jodi asked if she'd advised them to fire a very strong and muscular human guard in Grechia. Glynna told her she'd never advised anyone to fire anyone. Jodi said they could still be friends then. Harthe asked Jodi if she was in love with the human woman. Jodi responded that she was more in love with her than she's in love with herself now. Pō told Jodi they were sorry that someone they cared about was fired and that if she wanted them to help right the injustice they would help her. Jodi told them they already were and that doing the work they were doing was helping to right the injustice. Everyone was left very confused.   The party then discussed their plan of action for the Council meeting included disguise plans and decided what to do.
