Session 19 Report

General Summary

Midden 15 Redfall 834EA

In the morning, Pōtiki, Suiadan Innion, and Harthe awoke to a heavy rainstorm, thunder booming in the distance. They ate their breakfast quickly and set off again along the road to Maksary, keen to help Shu reach his destination as soon as possible.   They made good time despite the weather and were unhindered in their journey, passing just a few friendly travellers in covered wagons and carts along the way. As night began to fall, they decided to make camp again in the woods just to the west of the road. Suiadan found a spot but Pō and Harthe immediately pointed out the unsuitability of the spot due to it being in flooding low ground. Pō found a spot but Harthe pointed out the fresh fallen pine needles would be uncomfortable to lie on and found a much better spot for them. They set up the tents though this took time in the rain.   Having set up camp, Suiadan tried several times to make a campfire, to no avail. The wood was too wet and the rain extinguished any flames immediately even with the aide of magic. Defeated, they ate their rations and agreed on watches before turning in for the night. They each took turns keeping watch but no danger befell them.

Follen 16 Redfall 834EA

Upon morning, the rain had stopped and the sun arose in a blue sky. A strongish wind blew in from the northeast. The campers packed up their belongings again after a rushed breakfast and headed back along the road toward Maksary.   At midday, the party stopped for a quick lunch. While eating, Harthe picked up noises of people talking upon the breeze, coming from within the woods. He told the group and they decided to try avoid the area after Pip failed to see anything within range. However, Suiadan was hit by an arrow and they heard the archer yelling behind her 'Guard the door!' The venturers set upon the archer and her friends and went to investigate the mysterious door.   Pō realised that a symbol of a 'Y' carved into the doorframe matched that of several letters they had found at various bandit camps and urged the others that they should investigate further, promising Suiadan that if it took too long, they could just leave and they'll continue their original goal of getting him to Vanimaldine. Shu agreed and they decided to go investigate. Pō used ghost step to push their head through the door a little to see what was beyond and saw steps down to a subterranean tunnel. They stepped through and tested the door and found that it was unlocked. Pō and Harthe cast disguise self on themselves (Harthe with the aide of his hat of disguise) to make themselves look like two of the bandits they had just fought - Harthe as a female half-elf druid, and Pō as a female half-orc fighter. Suiadan used beast shape to turn himself into a mouse.   They climbed down the stairs and ignored the first tunnel to the left, deciding to first walk ahead. They failed to spot the tripwire that Shu skittered under, and triggered a falling net trap. Pō was able to jump out of the way but Harthe became entangled underneath. Pō became entangled in trying to pull the net off of him and Harthe took several minutes trying to cut his way out with a dagger. Shu assisted by chewing through the rope.   Eventually they cleared the net and agreed to be more careful and look hard for traps as they went. Pō lead the way along a windy tunnel which eventually came to a dead end. Pō and Suiadan tried to investigate the wall of the dead end but it did not seem to be a secret door of some kind. Harthe cast detect magic to detect magic traps and such but did not see anything amiss. They returned to the stairs and turned right down the first corridor which wound around several corners and then along a long stretch. Travelling cautiously this time, Pō was able to spot a pressure plate in the ground half way down the corridor. They pointed it out to the others and asked if they should try jump over it or try to disable the mechanism. Harthe suggested it shouldn't be too hard to just jump over it and used his new winged boots to fly over it. Suiadan was able to crawl over it as a mouse, as he did not weigh enough to trigger it. Pō was able to jump over the plate with ease.   They reached another dead end with a door to the right just before the end, however Pō discovered another door hidden on the right at the dead end. After some discussion and Suiadan peeking under the unconcealed door and spotting a large stone foot but not being able to communicate this at all to the others, they decided to go through the secret door and try and look like they belong to avoid arousing suspicion. They entered the room to find a stone golem but it did not react to their presence. They noted two closed doors, as well as an archway leading to a room on the left. Harthe suggested to Suiadan that he investigate the room on the left to check for danger. The mouse skittered in but could not see any danger and reported back as best he could with a series of squeaks. They all entered the room and found it to be a large storage room of barrels, sacks, crates, and chests. Harthe's detect magic spell detected a glow from a locked chest. Harthe and Pō did their best to discern if the chest was rigged with a trap but could not perceive any sign of one. Harthe tried to unlock the padlock with his dagger, improvising with lack of lockpicks or tools, but had no luck. Pō attempted instead and managed to break the lock entirely causing it to fall off the chest. They carefully opened the chest, jumping back in case it was trapped, and found a lot of treasure.
