Session 14 Report

General Summary

Dorent 10 Redfall 834EA

In the morning, the venturers prepared to leave the camp. They noticed that Lavinia Antovia seemed anxious and repeatedly picked at the children. They asked her about it over breakfast but neither she nor Bryson Antovia were forthcoming.   At around mid-morning, they crested a hill and Tolyapol was in sight. Suiadan Innion realised he recognised the town from his dreams. He was immediately on edge. The others calmed him down and they continued on their way. Bain de Soleil pressed Lavinia again to find out what was wrong and she told her that was worried her dying father will need care. Though Bain could sense there was more to it, she was unable to draw any more information from the cold and distant woman. Pōtiki quipped that they could speed his death along and Shu began to (not very quietly) conspire with the other party members to kill the man. Lavinia tells him she would prefer if he did not. As they arrived in Tolyapol and got closer to her father's house, Lavinia proffered a little more of an insight into her relationship with her father, revealing it to be a fraught relationship and also letting slip that he was a very powerful mage.   They arrived at the house, which turned out to be a large and fancy building. Lavinia's father opened the door and met them. He was an elf, old and frail, and his mannerisms were serious and proper. He was very dismissive of the group and did not greet his family warmly. He did not seem nervous of Shu’s cutthroat attitude or Bain’s hassling him for not being nice to his family. The rest of the party managed to convince Shu not to try to kill the old man - Pō warned that from his experience, it often doesn’t go well to murder people when other people know you did it.   The party went to The Grey Claw Inn. Pō was a bit restless. Bain attempted to charm the barkeep, Tomira for a free stay at the Inn but the woman did not seem impressed. Bain did a very showy performance that involved standing on tabletops which made Tomira even less impressed as she tells Bain to get off the tables as food goes there. Bain attempted to gracefully get down from the table but slipped her footing but managed to do an artful rescue-roll. The two eventually negotiated instead for discounted rates if the bard was able to draw in a crowd. Bain agreed but was less than gracious about it.   During dinner, the group noticed that there were a few unusual people in the tavern, so Pōtiki casted detect magic. A shadowy person in the corner wearing a cloak was revealed to have some sort of magic weapon. The firbolg also noticed a strange floating orb hovering in the air above the party’s table, invisible to everyone. Pō made a very bad attempt at telling the table there was something there without letting on. Shu looked up at where Pō was trying to tell him to not-look, and the ball disappeared.   Bain went to talk to the cloaked person in the corner, a middle-aged halfling woman, who revealed that she knew who the tabaxi bard and her friends were and that she and her organisation had been watching them. She asked Bain if she liked the bandore and Bain realised that she had been the cloaked figure that dropped the bandore off in Grechia for her. The halfling told her that they couldn't talk properly there and slipped her a piece of paper with a time and a location to meet.   Pōtiki asked the innkeeper if there had been anything weird going on lately. The woman told her that there had been more sounds of wolves from in the forest lately and that sometimes one sounded much closer than usual, but did not seem too phased by it.   The party had nothing better to do until the meeting time, so they went to the location from the slip of paper, just behind the market square, and set up Leoman’s Tiny Hut as the merchants packed up their wares for the day and went home. As they were in the process of this, they heard howls in the woods. Shu started to hare off immediately but Pōtiki stopped him, saying they could not risk becoming separated when Bain and Harthe were planning to stay and wait for the meeting. Pō pointed out that they would all work together and help Shu fight, Shu just had to wait. Shu decided to go back, and they waited for the cloaked person in the hut. Once again during this time, Pōtiki casted detect magic, and the floating orb was seen once again, and yet another failed attempt at stealthily pointing it out was made.   Eventually the cloaked woman arrived and knocked on the side of the hut, and the party went out to meet her. Bain and her had a conversation. She introduced herself to be Tyna Brushgather of the organisation, The Silver Whisperers. She told Bain that they were a spy network that had been watching Bain and seen her to be a person of great skill and wanted to recruit her. She explains that they keep an eye out for evil or nefarious stuff. As an example, she revealed that they think the elf (Lavinia's father) is not who he says. When Bain asked if they know any more about the notes the party has found, she told them that they think magic users are being shipped off to the East. Bain was tempted by the offer, but asked if she would be able to still watch over and protect her friends in that role. Tyna agreed and told her that would be possible.   The conversation was then interrupted by a loud howl, and a massive wolf-like creature with a smoky coat appeared on the other side of town. Shu leapt off to go and fight it and the others followed.   A battle ensued, and the locals became very aware of it as Shu had cast a daylight spell early on in the fight and it lit up the whole town, and a tree and a house got set on fire. Shu was dogged in his attempts to slay the wolf, and the creature almost killed Pōtiki during the fight. Tyna assisted but was knocked out at one point. The team was eventually successful.   The town gathered to put the fire out and headed back to their houses, keen to get away from the scene of the battle. Lavinia's father appeared briefly and warned the group to avoid casting high level magic in public, then went back quickly to his home, unseen by anyone else.   Tyna was pulled back to consciousness and helped the group to examine the. She pointed out that the wolf was not natural, and it appeared to be from from the Feywild. The group discussed what to do next.
