Session 1 Report

General Summary

Sonden 17 Vindenn 834EA

The gang woke up and went to the tavern for breakfast some more hungover than others. Pōtiki returned from his early morning walk after a word with his friend, the fantail Pīpī. After a bit of chat, they decided to head to Millfield Town Hall to look at the Millfield Community Board and find some work. At the Town Hall they met up with the Aldersman, Ailuin Gilmyar. Suiadan introduced himself as Harthe and changed his appearance. Ailuin told them about finding a large wall cave-in at Flora Apothecary and Atheona Daemaris's home during his early morning walk. He asked the party if they felt an earthquake last night as it is the only explanation he can think would explain the collapsed walls. He asked them if they could investigate and check on Atheona. Pō expressed interest in seeing if she was dead. The party read the notices on the community board. One was a warning to stay away from a cave in the woods and certain death. Another was asking for work. Another was asking for magic expertise. Another asked for a mercenary group with reward promised by the local stonemason, Sigrun Oaksword. The last notice asked for a group to rid a mine of rats for the local blacksmith, Jolmin Singen. The party decided to go check on Atheona before making enquiries about the mine and the mercenary jobs.   Suiadan Innion, Harthe, Pōtiki, and Horren Grumdor arrived at Flora Apothecary and immediately noticed the large hole in the corner of the shop caused by the wall cave-in. They were greeted by the shopkeeper Atheona. Seeing that she was alive, Pō immediately lost interest and left the shop. Harthe asked Atheona about what caused the hole in the wall and what caused it and told her Ailuin wondered if there'd been an earthquake. Atheona pleaded ignorance. Not prepared to press any further, they party decided to leave, not before Horren purchased a potion of healing from her.   The group then headed to Smith and Mason to find Sigrun working at the deck. They asked her about the job and she told them about how she and her sister had been taken and tortured by slavers 5 years ago and her sister had been killed and now she was out for revenge. She had recently had word that the slavers were camped out near the border of Cleroy and Chambon on the shores of the Valpinal Expanse. The party agreed to take on the job and also spoke to Jolmin about the mine job, deciding to deal with the slavers first.   The group immediately set off for the Valpinal Expanse. After 6 hours of travelling on the road, they decided to make camp just off the road in order to strike the slavers at night. Harthe sent his familiar, a pseudodragon named Pip, to fly overhead and alert to danger while he slept. Horren went to sleep sitting up against a tree. Pō went to sleep with the belief Hāmua his ruru friend would wake him if there was danger, and Suiadan meditated on the side of the road confusing passing horses and travellers.

Smo'sby 18 Vindenn

After some sleep and a few hours after midnight, the party set off toward the lake, doing their best to stealth as they got close to the shore. At the shore they were not able to see any sign of slavers around. Harthe sent Pip to find them, eventually getting sense from Pip through their telepathic link that there was a fire a little under a mile away over a slight hill further into Chambon. The group attempted to sneak toward the camp but despite Suiadan's casting a pass without a trace spell, Horren's metal armour clanked loudly and alerted one of the two slavers keeping guard by the dying campfire. Combat immediately began with the element of surprise lost and the alerted slaver calling on his buddy to "wake the others" as he pulled out a scimitar. A total of 10 slavers were downed by the party with much comedy of errors including one slaver misfiring his crossbow and killing himself with an arrow to the face, Harthe casting suggestion on a slaver and causing him to kill two of his friends, the slaver leader being killed instantly upon stepping out of his tent by a wollop to the head by Horren's greataxe and an Eldritch Blast to the face by Pōtiki, and Horren accidentally dropping his greataxe on his foot and hurting himself, while being flanked by two slavers who struggled to find a chink in his armour to hurt him. Victorious, the group busied themselves by looting the bodies of the slavers, finding 14GP and 25 copper pieces. Pō did his usual ritual but at one point looked pained and shook his head. Rummaging through the tents, they also found 10GP worth of gems, a cloak of many fashions, and a magic glass eye. They also found a note with no signature saying "Forget civilians. Target magic users." Horren chopped off the head of the slaver leader to take back to Sigrun, while Suiadan looked in the cages on the carts in the camp. Two of the cages had a dead body in them. Another had two small crying, beaten and battered girls aged about 3 or 4 inside, the children of the two dead people. He tried unsuccessfully to pick the lock to release them. After failing to pick the lock, he asked Horren to help. Horren smashed the lock off and the group carried the girls with them as they travelled back to Millfield.   At Millfield, the group took the girls to Ailuin asking him what he can do about them. He promised he would find a new home for them. The group then delivered the head of the slaver leader to Sigrun who thanked them and gave them 25GP each and a Moon-touched Sword.   They then went back to The Drunken Pilgrim for dinner and an early night, although Pō left during dinner and did not return until a few hours later.
