Session 4 Report

General Summary

Jonheim 24 Vindenn 834EA

Suiadan Innion woke in The Drunken Pilgrim Inn with renewed purpose and attuned summer. Long golden locks down to his neck. He met with the party to discuss where to go next over a map and in the process learned about the fixed nature of this land and that its locations could be placed onto paper and shared with others. Pō suggested going to Rouvray but Suiadan and Harthe are reluctant. Harthe in particular seemed very uncomfortable with the idea of going to Rouvray and suggested that it might not be the best place for a group of spellcasters. He suggested they instead venture southwards. and pointed to the most direct route leading through the Taesai Woods.   A man called V'linder Odami overheard and said he had some work for the party. They were asked to see what was happening in a village to the south in the Taesai woods, called Baelis. He told them that trade through the area had been stopped due to a cult of some sort. However the man wouldn’t divulge what kind of trade, but promised them a handsome payment in reward, especially if they find his hired hand, Brogol Grotsk. So the party decided to continue south to Baelis.   Before departing, Suiadan bought rations and also some meat to be cooked from Colman Stanfield at his stall Cole's Cold Cuts in the Millfield Markets. On the way he searched for herbs and was able to find some herbs to flavour the food. Night came and he cooked one of the portions for the party. During the night wolves attacked, but the party dispatched them easily.

The next day they arrived at the outskirts of Baelis. The party notice a bridge and crows gathering on a nearby tree and an old woman washing her clothes in the river. Suiadan noticed one of the crows is not like the others and had a familiar way to it. It felt like fey and Shoo felt like he was home and also very scared. The old woman Old Hazel begged them for money and Shoo was kind to her and gave her money which he called food circles. She was very grateful and gave him a wooden token with a symbol similar to a strophalos and wished him and the others the Mother's blessings. Shoo bowed to her and put the token around his neck.   They then went into The Copper Kettle where they were greeted by Luneli Mirthspire and Hal Hargrave who treated them kindly when they saw Shoo's token. They met Brogol when he stumbled down the stairs. Luneli and Hal told the others to ignore him, and that he was drunk, but they could tell that wasn't the case. He begged the party to help him and told them that there was a witch in the woods who is trying to kill him. He told them that Odami suspected there was a witch in the woods and sent him to kill her. He thought it was Old Hazel but he was attacked before he could strike and told to leave her alone and whatever attacked him said "My Mistress will find you". He told them no one will help him and he offered them 1000GP to save him and guard his room overnight. They agreed and guarded his room overnight. At some point he let slip that Odami deals in unsavoury business possibly including drugs. During the night, Brogol got very agitated in his sleep. The Mother, a night hag, and her two minions, imps called Trux and Tryx appeared in the room and looked set to attack Brogol. The Mother spotted Shoo's token and called her minions off and they all disappeared again. Brogol seemed to settle again but was still restless.   Shoo went downstairs and talked to Luneli and learnt more about The Mother and the history of the cult. He learnt that she protects the women of the town and people who are hurt or hurting or in trouble. He told the others and they agreed that maybe the Mother is good. They considered killing Brogol and taking his money but decided against it. They then took shifts watching over Brogol for the rest of the night so they could get some sleep.

The next morning Shoo met Hawk Hargrave in the main hall of the inn and he had just been unhappily served by Milsee Meadowbrook. Hawk asked Shoo what he thought of Baelis and if he was here to do something about the cult. He offered to help. He told him how strange things happened to people who don't show Baelis' women proper respect. He told him he'd figured out where to look and pointed out Shadow Grove on a map for him. Shoo thanked him and went back to the others. They decided they would go and check it out. Horren instead opted to stay and watch over Brogol who was looking close to death.
