North Gate, Count's Yardham
The North Gate is the most easily defended of the gates to Count's Yardham. Access requires crossing a meadow, then a bridge over the river (all under the watch of the town fence and the Manor House's walls) until you eventually get to the gate itself.
The gate allows access from the bridge onto the north end of The Street.
Purpose / Function
Architecture
This is the only gate with stone facing - displaying the arms of the Kingdom of Gondor over the centre of the roadway. There is a stone arch over the road, but the flanking "Towers" are open-backed and filled with the earth of the town bank. (The platform so created is overlooked by the Manor House's gate tower).
History
The gate-arch stones were cut and erected by the same group of Dwarves that paved the Marketplace, Count's Yardham 200 years ago. The whole work was paid for by the town.
