Ivory Forest Glassworks

The Ivory Forest Glassworks is a Magna-owned provincial glassworks that acts also acts as labor camp for siliceer convicts, hostages, debtors, and other enemies of the state. The Magna have a government contract to run the facility and like to keep all its shares within the Magna family. It is overseen by Filur Magna, who runs a secret furnace there dedicated to the creation of illegal fearglass.   STORY   After Thessa Foleer escapes Grent, several Ossan soldiers capture her and threaten to send her to forcibly serve in the Ossan Navy during the war. However, she reveals that she is a siliceer, prompting them to send her to the Ivory Forest Glassworks instead where she is reunited with Axio Darnasus. Thessa keeps her identity hidden, pretending to be a Grent senior apprentice siliceer named Teala while Axio, who cannot make godglass, unfortunately pretends to a junior apprentice for better treatment, forcing Thessa to fulfill his godglass daily quotas for him. While there, Thessa also meets Pari, who tells her about Filur Magna's office and devout religious beliefs as a Rennite. These details help Thessa infiltrate Craftsman Magna's office by pretending to be a Rennite herself.   While searching for Thessa, Demir Grappo learns from his informant Duala Jaass that she was being held at the Ivory Forest Glassworks under the name of Teala. He immediately seeks the aid of Harlen to pressure Lechauri Pergos into stealing information about the glassworks from the Magna. In those stolen papers, he learns that Ulina Magna has sixteen shares in the glassworks, and he and Baby Montego immediately go to Castle Hill Arena to con her out of those shares. Once he becomes part owner of the Ivory Forest Glassworks, Supi Magna makes a personal visit to the Hyacinth Hotel to convince Demir to resell him the family shares, hoping to keep it inside the family. Demir refuses under the excuse that Supi must be trying to cheat him out of a very lucrative investment. He schedules a surprise inspection to seek out Teala. He finds her and slips her a razorglass knife to aid in her escape.   The next day, Thessa uses the razorglass to infiltrate Craftsman Magna's office to retrieve the schematics, but she also finds secret ledgers indicating he is involved in illegal trade deals, cheating on the government contract. She memorizes the ledgers before destroying them. Just as she leaves the office with the schematics, Craftsman Magna's enforcers drag her to Furnace Number Nine, where she finds that he has collared Axio with shackleglass and has learned the truth of her identity. He also reveals that Furnace Number Nine is reserved for the illegal crafting of fearglass. She refuses to make fearglass, so Craftsman Magna burns Axio with a molten piece of it, resulting in his horrible death. Demir enters the workshop and kills the two Magna enforcers. However, he knows he cannot kill Craftsman Magna without reprisal from the Magna guild-family. Craftsman Magna attacks Demir with a piece of fearglass, so Thessa knocks him into the furnace and closes the door, burning him alive. To help them escape, Baby Montego sets fire to the workshop to cause a distraction and blames it on one of Craftsman Magna's enforcers. During the commotion, they slip away to Wagonside where Thessa saves Demir's life.   The fire at Ivory Forest Glassworks spreads, causing massive damage, allowing many more prisoners to escape into the provinces. In an effort to catch the escaped prisoners, the Magna put a bounty on those who escaped, including on someone of Thessa's description. This bounty leads Temmen to try and kidnap her at the Lampshade Boardwalk, though she is saved by Pari. The burning down of the glassworks also directly leads to the tripling of the price of forgeglass in Ossa, resulting in the riot in the Assembly District.   When summoned to speak with the Inner Assembly at the Maerhorn, Demir talks to Supi, who threatens Demir with a full investigation into the accident at the glassworks with the use of shackleglass. Demir responds with his own threats about revealing the Magna involvement in making fearglass and Craftsman Magna's other illegal operations. He then promises to sell Supi those sixteen glassworks shares back, claiming he is not interested in associating with fearglass manufacturing.
