Godglass is a sorcerous material that comes in diverse forms and has many practical applications, from medicine to the arts, making it the most important substance of the age. It is crafted from cindersand by siliceers, who can directly sense its resonance and hone it into a variety of helpful objects. Each type of godglass is formed using different mineral and chemical compounds, which affect its sorcerous power and its color. Different types of godglass can even be braided together to create synergistic effects. Each type of godglass is represented by a silic symbol.
Most people wear godglass as jewelry, such as earrings, necklaces, and rings. Other forms include pieces that people can put between their teeth to increase its effect. However, if people have too much exposure to godglass, they can develop glassrot, so people often carry their godglass in cork-lined pockets or boxes. There are even some people who are allergic to godglass and some who are sorcery-aphasiac, meaning godglass does not affect them at all.
Overtime, godglass loses its resonance, a process that cannot be reversed, making godglass and cindersand a limited resource. As the cindersand began to run out, a secret silic war erupted between the guild-families in Ossa, driving up the price of godglass. Many people started rationing their godglass use, and the government and military began to restrict access to it. Many master siliceers have tried to invent a way to recharge godglass, leading to the creation of highly theoretical device known as the phoenix channel, but no one had successfully created one before Master Kastora.
