Glassrot
Glassrot is a sorcerous condition caused by prolonged exposure to godglass. It manifests in several stages, the first of which is faint nausea and a scaly, shimmer on the skin. More exposure can lead to the second stage, where the shimmering skin hardens into something akin to fish scales, which crackle with movement and itch. The scales usually manifest the color of the godglass used, so overexposure to forgeglass would result in yellow glassrot scales. If the exposure was not too severe and the skin damage is not permanent, these scales can be shaved off using a razor, a relatively painless procedure. However, sustained or prolonged exposure can result in permanent glassrot damage to the skin. If the scales are permanent, shaving the scales with a razor becomes much more painful, and the scales grow right back.
To prevent glassrot, people usually carry their godglass in cork-lined pockets to limit their exposure to only when they wear it. They must also take breaks from wearing godglass. The higher the godglass resonance, the faster glassrot develops and the longer the recovery time, a process that could take days or even weeks. Wearing high-resonance godglass for even a few seconds too long could cause permanent glassrot damage.
A few individuals have a godglass allergy, which may tinge the godglass scales orange and make the affects of glassrot much more serious, necessitating surgery to prevent fatality from overexposure. Glazaliers like Idrian Sepulki are generally resistant to glassrot, but they are not immune. Sorcery-aphasias like Thessa Foleer do not get glassrot, regardless of exposure, because they are entirely immune to the sorcerous properties of godglass.
