Master Kastora Character in Glass Immortals | World Anvil

Master Kastora

Master Kastora is a Grent master siliceer who works at the Grent Royal Glassworks. He is one of the most highly-regarded sorcerous engineers in the world with a reputation of being a genius. He often had secret projects brewing for the Duke of Grent, foreign clients, and even Ossan guild-families. With the help of Adriana Grappo, he invents a working phoenix channel prototype.   He is a widower in his sixties with a kind face who supposedly "remarried" his furnace. He is thin with a bald patch in his gray hair. He has burn scars and permanent glassrot scales all over his arms from a lifetime of godglassworking.   STORY   Master Kastora accepts Thessa Foleer as his protégé apprentice from Ossa, but not long after, her family is killed in Holikan. He then steps in as a fatherly figure for Thessa. During the Winter Solstice celebrations, he reveals his phoenix channel plans and prototype to Thessa. However, when the Ossan army attack the Grent Royal Glassworks, Master Kastora sets fire to his workshop on purpose, not wanting anyone to have his designs. He then gives Thessa the prototype schematics and tells her to find Adriana Grappo. After she flees, Thessa often remembers all of his lessons to her, including sayings such as "Keep them on their toes, or they won't respect you," or "Court for love, money, or political gain. Preferably two of the three. Anything else just sullies your reputation."   Unfortunately, Master Kastora is mortally wounded by a bayonet and lies dying in the ruins of the Grent Royal Glassworks, overseen by two Duchy of Grent soldiers Tinny and Geb. They give him cureglass and milkglass to ease his passing, but it is not enough to save him. Demir Grappo and Idrian Sepulki find him dying, and he confesses that the world's supply of cindersand is running out and that he and Adriana had hoped to curb that disaster by inventing a phoenix channel. He tells them they must find Thessa and have her build another one for them. He then expires painfully after spitting out the cureglass. Idrian finds his passing particularly difficult because Master Kastora was a dear friend who had crafted the godglass eye that kept Idrian's madness at bay. Without Master Kastora's continued maintenance, Idrian's madness returns. Thessa learns of Master Kastora's death from Filur Magna at the Ivory Forest Glassworks just before she escapes. She lights a candle to the death god Kloor at the Wagonside omnichapel to mark his passing.
