Yaren
Yaren is the capital city of the Cabal of Yaren, located in the north east of Hepsut, and situated with the Yaren Fields, south of the Silven Vale jungle.
Yaren is a mysterious and secretive place, it is also incredibly isolated, with no harbour or roads connecting to it. There is not much known about the city, primarily due to it's people's isolation and mistrust of outsiders, who are barred from entering the city outside of the incredibly rare invitation.
Yaren, like the city of Maran, is a Mage city, with it believed that the entire population of Yaren are Spellcasters in some way, with Magic taught to all children, beginning at a young age. Yaren is also considered to be a rival city to Maran, as both cities survived the Fall of Arcanum and both cities are governed by ancient Mageocracies. Some scholars have even speculated that the city of Yaren may have also been one of the floating cities of Arcanum, but was grounded during the Sun War, which occurred only two centuries before the fall.
Yaren is said to house a vast wealth of knowledge, containing large libraries of ancient Magical secrets, thought lost to the Fall. Many scholars spend years attempting to get access to Yaren’s libraries, though the Cabal of Yaren are unwilling to share this knowledge, claiming it to be the will of Hekate herself.
Both the Gods Helios and Hekate are heralded as the Patron Deities of Yaren, with two prominent temples dedicated to the two Gods located within the city walls. Following the Sun War, the city of Yaren is the only place left on Exorsia that practice the ancient traditional of Helios, preserving a part of ancient Sun Elf culture that has been lost to the rest of the world.
Government
Yaren is governed by the Yastari, a council of ten Archmages that lead the Cabal of Yaren.
The Yastari oversee the affairs of the city of Yaren, as well as the lands outside of the city, but the inner workings of the government are unknown.
Defence
Yaren is defended by an elite militia of Spellcasters known as the Spellblades, who are loyal to the Yastari.
Commerce
Yaren is wholly self-sufficient and has no trade, with it likely that the population has forgone any form of commerce or currency. It is claimed that almost all the supplies and resources within the city are distributed by the government.
It is unknown where Yaren gets much of its supplies or resources, as there is no farmland or industry outside the city walls, with it speculated that the people of Yaren produce their resources magically, likely through a form or Conjuration or Transmutation.
Geography
Yaren is an ancient, fortified city, situated with the Yaren Fields, and south of the Silven Vale jungle.
Yaren is surrounded by a tall, circular wall of polished stone, dotted with spire-like watchtowers, and decorated with colourful mosaic patterns that encircle the entire width of the wall. The city itself is described as ancient in design, similar in appearance to the City of Maran, with uniform streets, and colourful, pristine buildings, schools and libraries, all ordered in perfect concentric circles, leading to six large spires that rise out of the city's centre. The city is said to be filled with beautiful art of all kinds, decorating the walls and streets, particularly artistic mosaics depicting the history of the Sun Elves, as well as the great mages of Yaren's past and present.
Further details of the cities layout or structure are unknown.
