Nythlaang

Nythlaang, or "New Land" in Ancient Wyrthanhaalian.   Nythlaang is the Eastern Continent of the known world of Eotha. This long thin continent stretches from the arctic tundras in the north to steamy jungles of the southern tropics. Nythlaang is populated by the majority of Eotha's sentient races. In the north humans and halflings are the dominant cultures and nations with enclaves of dwarves and a single elven territory.   To the south lie the Adversary Kingdoms, populated by Yuan-ti, orcs and Duegar. Wars and cultural assimilation have favoured the humans and halflings following their victory in the War of Terror.

Geography

General Description

Nythlaang is one of three known continents on Eotha. Located east of Variala and north of Sudanlaang, Nythlaang stretches from the arctic to just south of the equator. As such it spans from tundra in the north to deserts and jungles in the south. Though it is much wider the further north you go, it's east-west expanse averages around two thousand kilometres across. This narrows down to less than one thousand kilometres toward the south, where it does so Nythlaangs largest lake, Lake Hadar and various mountain ranges create a significant bottleneck for travel in the area once known as the Dominion of Scales. South of this the content opens back up with badlands and deserts to the west and a huge jungle to the east.   In northern and central Nythlang the Giantshield mountain range divides the continent in two beginning just south of the tundra and running the length of Nythlaang almost as far as Lake Hadar. Key passes and Vales that intersect the Giantshields form the basis of east-west trade and as such, are hubs of civilization such as The Elsir Vale. The most developed nations in the north are situated east of the Giantshields where ruling hills and vibrant flood plains make for wealthy nations.

Civilization

Northern Nythlaang is home to four kingdoms; Wyrthanhaal, Caldersfyr, Knerek and Northangyia along with three city states; Brindol, Dennovar and Brythnholme.   Central Nythlaang is dominated by The Holy Platinum Empire, a large elective monarchy comprised of almost a hundred kingdoms, principalities, duchies and more. The Holy Platinum Empire stretches from the borders of Wyrthanhaal to the north, the Giantshields to the west, the Boundary Ocean] to the East and Lake Hadar in the south. [Seraline, the vast forest nation of the @Tal'doranth is found within the Holy Platinum Empire, this isolationist nation frequently finds itself in conflict with its humans and halfling neighbours.   Western Nythlaang is mostly uninhabited by "civilized" races. West of the Giantshields and the Elsir Vale lie the badlands. Home to many Hobgoblin tribes and kingdoms, a narrow band of frontier civilization dots an ancient dwarven road that connects to the western coast. The western coast of Nythlang is the second most populous area in Eotha known as The Gold Coast, a collection of minor kingdoms, free cities and "anarchistic" societies created by enterprising halflings and humans.   Southern Nythlang is the area south of the Sea of Hadar and a dangerous land inhabited by orc strongholds, hobgoblin kingdoms and the Yuan-ti Theocracy of Ss'vtithis. The only non-adversarial peoples found in this region are the slave towns of the wayfarer elves who are in thrall to the Yuan-ti. Mountains south of here are populated by minor Duegar kingdoms.
