Wyrth

The capital city of both the Kingdom of Wyrthanhaal and the Earldom of Wyrth. Wyrth is the most prosperous and populous city in Wyrthanhaal and a key religious centre for the Avarian Church.

Demographics

Wyrth has a higher than average population of humans and dragon born than the national averages. As the location of many embassies it is also more diverse and it's religious significance means that much of the population are involved with priestly or knightly orders.

Government

Wyrth is ruled by the Earl of Wyrth and it takes a small tithe from all the duchies of Wyrthanhaal to supplement the work of the Avarian Church in the city. The Earl entrusts much of the running of the city to the Council of Wyrth. Council members are appointed for life by the Earl of Wyrth after receiving nominations from at least two dukes and two local leaders.   The Council of Wyrth was originally comprised of the members of King Wencel's royal advisors and to date the living advisors to the late king continue to serve upon the Council. Council members must contend with national politics whilst attending to their municipal duties, conflicts of interest are frequent and Wyrth has begun to suffer under the mismanagement this has wrought. There are seven council positions, one for each walled section of the city and the Sheriff of Wyrth whose appointment is made unilaterally by the Earl.

Defences

Wyrth is a city that as grown beyond its limits. It's outer walls are small in comparison to it's original fortifications. Each terrace layer one ascends however makes the city progressively more defensible. In all there are six walls that protect the Temple of Dispensation, the largest of which being the third ring which also encompasses the Great Hall of Ordinsson.

Architecture

Wyrth has access to large quantity of high grade stone and its terraces and walls demonstrate that. Dark granite is used extensively throughout the city giving it a foreboding look. Wyrthans are fond of their draconic imagery and many dragon gargoyles adorn the walls and stone structures. Beyond the outer walls it is illegal to use stone that could eventually be used by an enemy in a siege, as such buildings beyond the wall are made from local timber.
