Free Cities of the Elsir Vale

The Free Cities of the Elsir Vale is a loose alliance between the city states of Dennovar and Brindol. The alliance was formed during the Wyrthanhaalian civil war after the death of Duke Damian at the Battle of Blue Blood. With the alliance the duchy of the Elsir seceded from Wyrthanhaal pending the return of a legitimate heir to the throne.

Dennovar and Brindol have a defensive pact aimed at fending off aggression from the Wyrthanhaalian dukes.

History

The Battle of Blue Blood
The death of Duke Damien and his sons in the Golden Plains is where the modern history of Brindol and Dennovar begins. The Duke of Elsir Vale had no other legitimate claimants to his title, and there was no King to assign a replacement. This was the third year of the Wyrthanhaal Civil War and it had already been exceptionally bloody. Damien had led well over 50% of the Elsir Vale's able bodied youths to conquer Wyrthanhaal starting with Nulnyn, while many of these survived the battle, most did not survive the journey home through the Golden Plains.
The remains lords of Dennovar and Brindol agreed that annexation by the duke of Nulnyn was inevitable unless they could present a clear show of force. Both cities simultaneously declared independence from any authority save that of the King of Wyrth. The move ensured that any aggressor would gain the ire of his fellow dukes by implying he had a claim to the title of king, something none of them had.
