Katerans

The Katerans1 are the ruling tribe of Lelenda, a Mörkel kingdom on the north-central Plain of Kings, who inhabit the the southern part of the country near the capital of Töledan. They, along with the Getterans to the north, are related to the people North-Eila and South-Eila to the west and southwest, respectively, with whom they share a similar culture.
Traditionally, Katerans are responsible for protecting Lelenda from rival Mörkels and trading with the country's allies, while the Getterans' main responsibility is to keep Knárs from the Plain of Spirits to the north at bay.
In the Erkóad, an epic poem describing the deeds and trials of the hero Erkóet during the days of Eila'togía, the prototypical Mörkel kingdom, the hero first visited the Katerans on his quest around Fekai Lake to prove his claim to the throne of Eila'togía, where he was received by Hadreló, their chief and friend of Erkóet's father. There, Hadreló recognized the hero's status after the latter managed to capture and bring him a legendary hyrning with golden horn and tusks.

Common Myths and Legends

The patron deity of the Katerans and Lelenda in general is the moon goddess Anhúna. Töledan is the only place with a notable temple dedicated to the goddess, which is part of a triple shrine that also honours her father Aþar, the sun god, and her brother Pegíar, god of metallurgy.
