Getterans

The Getterans1 are a Mörkel tribe inhabiting northern Lelenda on the north-central Plain of Kings. Unlike Katerans, their cousins and ruling tribe of the kingdom, who subsist mostly on fishing and farming, the Getterans lead a semi-nomadic lifestyle centered on raising Hyrnings and, to lesser extent, hunting various rodents and reptiles found in the region. Their bravest warriors are also known to hunt Förns, apex predators of the plains, to prove their skill and courage.
Traditionally, as part of ancient defense pact made with the Katerans which lead to the founding of Lelenda, the Getterans are responsible for defending the northern border against invading Knárs, though this role has shifted somewhat since the Vörlak Wall was built. The wall is a near-continuous series of fortifications - mostly low walls of rammed earth behind ditches- stretching from Ett River to the west to Ellú River, designed over many centuries to keep the Knárs at bay in regions on the northern frontier of the Plain of Kings lacking any natural barriers.
Nowadays, Getteran warriors spend most of their time patrolling, expanding and maintaining the wall rather than facing the Knárs directly, and the majority of their camps are now located near these fortifications as a result.

Getteran tongue is among the most divergent of the ötric languages, the variety of Mörkelic spoken around Fekai Lake on the central Plain of Kings.

Common Myths and Legends

The patron deity of the Getterans is Zirnei, goddess of hunting and archery, to whom they bury the hearts of their quarry as offerings. A small temple in honour of the divine huntress is located in Töledan, capital of Lelenda, outside which the rulers of Lelenda traditionally receive annual tribute from the Getteran chiefs.
