Lucidity
Lucidity is a large island, located North of The Ringed Kingdom. Lucidity is a recent addition to the world of Apa Axas, being a shard of the Far Realm that fell through time and crash landed in the realm after the defeat of The Lucid Dreamer.
Geography
Lucidity is an island made up of barren grasslands, fetid swamps and treacherous crags. It is not known as a place of natural beauty, which many visitors to the island describing it as a 'putrid hellhole', and that was one of the more positive reviews. This alone may make it uninhabitable to most visitors, but the most dangerous facet of Lucidity is its signature Far Realm Incursions.
Localized Phenomena
The most notably geographic feature of Lucidity is its famous and destructive Far Realm Incursions. These huge fields of Far Realm energy often appear at the most inoppurtune moments, causing madness and mutations throughout the area. These strange areas can appear randomly, or in set sections of the island, and have a disastrous effect on the location area, causing extreme behaviour, devestating mental turbulence and crippling physical mutations. These Far Realm Incursions are not a constant feature of the island, only becoming apparent during times of crisis. As such, these Incursions are taken as omens for something far worse arriving.
Fauna & Flora
The ecosystem of Lucidity is in a constant state of flux. Many fauna and flora have been outclassed by mutated counterparts, created by the Far Realm Incursions. Creatures such as Gnarled Dryads and Treants often spontaneously appear at these Far Realm Incursions, and are far more aggressive than their regular counterparts, ravaging the immediate area and feasting on all those who cannot escape in time. However, in times of peace, these mutated creatures often fade away, starved out due to a lack of nourishment from the Far Realm. Large creatures, such as dinosaurs, owlbears and other large predators gain a foothold, usually due to migration or irresponsible visitors to the island.
Natural Resources
While it may be difficult to understand why people would want to settle Lucidity, the island is still a popular place to attempt to colonise for its unique natural resource: Oneiric Ore. This bizarre metal is charged by Far Realm energy, and is a perfect conduit for magical energy, making it ideal for creating powerful magical items. The items created by this rare material could be used to turn the tide of any war, and many competiting factions vye to control mines and forges that produce the metal.
Lucidity is also famous for its fish, and the ability to grow much larger livestock and crops than anywhere else on Apa Axas, allowing it to become an island rich in resources.
History
Lucidity first appeared in 38SCE, after falling from the sky North of the Ringed Kingdom. Its crash caused huge earthquakes and tsunamis in the area, nearly destroying The City of Spires, the captial city of the Ringed Kingdom. This devestation caused Victorius Saccan, The Mad Queen to begin a desperate attempt to colonise the island, in order to gather resources to help rebuild her city, as well as preventing any dissentents from claiming the power while she recovered.
She sent Sir Isaac Ionacht, and Sir Hudon Lilymont, two of her most trusted generals to take control of the wild new arrival. While Sir Hudon established Hudon's Watch on the Southern section of the island, Sir Isaac established Coldashton. These two settlements allowed passage for many visitors to the island, which allowed a group of adventurers to aid the Kep Barna in defeating the machinations of Lachsman to destroy the concept of magic.
The disapperance of The Drifting Temple caused multiple events, such as the fall of the Sclera and the cessation of the Far Realm Incursions. This short time of peace allowed Sir Isaac to start a dynasty after a deal with Kal Crist, leading to the appearence of The Vile Veil. Once this was destroyed by a group of adventurers, Kal Crist attempt to shed his godhood in an effort to reunite with Shubb'Ki. This shedding of divinity caused further havoc, requiring yet another intervention by adventurers.
Once Kal Crist was dealt with, there were nearly 700 years of peace, allowing Lucidity to return to a more mundane state. However, the reappearence of The Lucid Dreamer caused the Far Realm Incursions to arrive in its wake. The actions of The Order of Orbs led to the creation of Unreality, and it took the combined might of Drelux, her daughter, and a huge army to reverse the damage done.
Tourism
While usual tourism is uncommon on Lucidity, many blacksmiths and merchants come to peddle their wares. In addition, adventurers often come to the island in search of treasure, adventure and a chance to prove their worth.
