Hobgoblin

Hobgoblins are a race of mortals found on Apa Axas. Hobgoblins are an ordered and militant people, and the generals of favoured children of Sangroke Bliss. It is said that they represent the military prowess and honour-bound combat of the Orc Mother, and are said to have developed the Battlemaster and Champion fighting styles.

Civilization and Culture

History

It is said that when Sangroke Bliss lead her crusade against the free peoples of Apa Axas with her Great Horde, the Hobgoblins were the ones who told the Warmaiden which cities to strike to tear down the other races. They were feared for their expertise in weaponry and martial cunning, making them an impressive and deadly sight to come up against in battle. Together with the other goblinoids, the Hobgoblins nearly took over Apa Axas in the name of Sangroke Bliss, but were defeated upon the united front of Humans, Elves, Dwarves, Halflings and the Drow, dealing Sangroke Bliss away and casters her armies. After the Crusades’ end, the Hobgoblins were the least trusted of the survivors, and the small tribes that remained were cast out of all civilisation.
Desperate to cling onto what honour they could, they formed their own savage civilisation in the mountainous areas of the world. Many became increasingly war-like, however, they were soon overpowered by the superior numbers of the other races. Instead, the more isolationist societies survived. These distant villages were unwelcoming and seem to favour a more brutal meritocratic society, ruled over by a seemingly benevolent dictator figure who has proven the superior member of the tribe in 7 trials of Ability, such as strength, cunning and leadership skills.

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

Military life isn’t for every Hobgoblin, and some venture off into other more metropolitan civilisation. Strangely enough, Hobgobllins are more likely to be accepted into modern societies than other Goblinoids, as Hobgoblins are seen by most as able to conduct themselves in polite society due to their strict codes. However, their foul treatment by other races due to their appearance and seemingly alien cultural practices, often sets off their extreme form of retribution, leading many Hobgoblins to be criminalised, even unfairly in many cases. Because of this, many Hobgoblins have become destitute, as no one will hire them, and any turn to crime, an enterprise their specialised minds excel at.
