Drow
Drow, or Dark Elves, are a subspecies of Elves. Only seen on the surface as shamed exiles or murderous strike force, the Drow are creatures of fearful myth amongst the folk who dwell in the Seven Kingdoms of Apa Axas. Most knowledge of the Drow comes from tales of raids, hazy memories of traumatised survivors and works of fiction, and, as such, much has been lost in translation; as tales told of their ability to summon darkness as the click of their fingers, swallow a Tarrasque whole and not only survive, but thrive in the hellscape below known as the Underdark, constructing huge empires spanning continents underground. Only some of these are true.
Not many remember that the Drow are actually a sub species of Elf, who split off from the original Elves produced by Feny Lekki and The Vida Quda. Unlike most of the other elves, the Drow refused to join Feny Lekki in The Feywild, having been seduced by the spider Goddess known as Lolth. These zealots soon became nightmares to the surface world, existing in caves and the deep forests, known as the Drow. Their faith in Lolth was seemingly unshakeable, and they became her mortal instruments in the lands of Apa Axas, forming entire societies based on the teachings of their insane goddess, until, that is, the God Severment was activated. Despite using her guile and stealthy capabilities to avoid the full extent of the God Severment, it left her weakened beyond all repair. Now but a lowly demigod, possibly even able to die by mortal hand, damaged many of the Drow’s singular faith in her. This in turn weakened Lolth further; so deep was her connection to the Drow that her fate hinged on their belief. Sangroke Bliss, the Travesty of War, took the opportunity to slay Lolth, taking the former goddess’s skull and forming it into her formidable Spiderbite Flail.
This defeat completely shattered Drow society, as much of Drow law was based on teachings of a goddess who no longer existed. This fundamentally changed the Dark Elves as a people, and they were splintered into three distinct tribes; The Lolthkin who wish to resurrect Lolth and aid her quest in reforging the bonds of the Drow houses, The Clever Drow who believe they have grew past the need for a deity, and attempt to destroy any worship of any god they encounter, particularly Lolth, and The Mistwalkers who follow the travesty Vox, who lead this sect of Drow into the Underdark, where he grants them power in exchange for the Drow’s aid in defending his entrances to the Shadowfell and Shadowdark.
With this major culture shock, the Drow on Apa Axas have struggled to recover their once proud way of life. Due to their less than favourable reputation and alterations made by Lolth to their physiologies, they are now longer considered Elves by their former kin, and are now classed as a seperate species entirely. Many tribes live on the outskirts of societies as raiders or opportunistic bandits, while others cling to their ruined cities, desperate to recapture their glory days or living in denial that anything has changed. The Drow who have moved on from Lolth are often in better standings, but they are still widely dismissed by other races who cannot see past the crimes of the Drow ancestors.
