Vox
The Voidseeker, The God of Misguidance, The Lord of the Fog (a.k.a. Voitek Fogguide)
Vox, also known as the Voidseeker, the God of Misguidance or the Lord of the Fog, is the Travesty representing shadow, perception and manipulation. He is one of the most commonly encountered Travesties, due to his interest in persuading mortals to use deceitful tactics to achieve their goals. Despite this, he has also been known to aid mortals in order to protect Apa Axas, such as the Mirikas incident, in which he aided a party of adventurers by slaying Mirikas, a powerful mage who threatened to plunge Apa Axas into the The Ethereal Plane, at the point of Apotheosis. However, it is unknown whether he conducts these heroic acts out of the goodness of his heart, or as part of a larger plan.
It is said that he resides in The Bleak, a cold, but notably peaceful section ofThe Marshes Betwixt. It is from here that he lures souls traversing the Path into becoming lost forever, corrupting them into living Shadows.
Some believe Vox is a manifestation of the Shadowfell. He is also closely associated with the Underdark, and is said to be the deity who guided The Mistwalkers, a faction of Drow there after the death of Lolth.
Divine Domains
While Vox's main domains are Shadow, Manipulation and Perception, he is also said to oversee Labyrinths, Travel, Fog, Criminals, Illusions, Caves, Portals and Spiders.
Artifacts
As the most commonly encountered Travesty, and one who particularly enjoys the manipulation of mortals, Vox has many artifacts. These include:
- The Eye of the Tethered Beast, an amulet embossed with the eye of the Haemoking and allows control over nearby Bloodsappers.
- The Amulet of Defiled Life, an amulet that improves the necromantic capabilities of the user at the cost of their sanity.
- The Dark Reflection, a small hand mirror that fuels self doubt within the user.
- The Ring of Baleful Flames, a ring originally designed for Zemer Epsh, that leads to intense paranoia.
- Leyland's Shroud, a cloak that grants invisibility, but allows for the wearer's movements to be tracked.
- Plate Armour of Etherealness, a set of plate armour that allows the wearer to phase out of sync with reality.
Physical Description
General Physical Condition
As with many of the other Beacons and Travesties, Vox can alter his appearence and appears to mortals in a variety of guises, depending on who he is interacting with.
To The High Elven Pantheon, he is known as Voitek Fogguide, and appears as a crafty young Elven man with shadows in his eyes and a forked tongue, who's very presence darkens the world.
Mental characteristics
Personal history
As with many of the Travesties, Vox's origins are widely desputed. Believed to be a manifestation of the Shadowfell by The Naishian Approach, the religion states that Vox was formed of living shadows, and was forged into being by the Void itself. Others, such as The Followers of the Path believe he came into being during The Clever Folk's God Severment.
Despite his esoteric origins, he is one of the more commonly encountered Travesties, and has had many encounters with the mortals of Apa Axas, including The Great Drow Civil War and the Mirikas incident.
Personality Characteristics
Motivation
The morality of Vox is a subject that has been debated by scholars for millenia. Despite his obvious evil behaviours, such as the corruption and manipulation of mortals; he has been present at pivotal moments of history, aiding heroes in their world saving endeavours. However, his motivations for doing so are unknown. Some say that he, unlike other Travesties, does so out of the kindest of his heart, or because he believes it is the right thing to do. However, others point out that his aid often comes with a catch, and his actions may be part of a much larger, and devious plan. For example, while he aided a party of heroes by destroying the mad mage Mirikas at the point of his apotheosis, thereby saving the continent of Kthombru, this action caused the creation of Mirikas, and indirectly caused Curt Prices to become a Temporal Staple.
Likes & Dislikes
Worshippers of Vox vary in their reverance of the Lord of the Fog. He is most commonly worshipped by the Drow, particularly The Mistwalkers, who often commit acts of horrific violence in his name, while others are more peaceful, instead preferring his domain of manipulating events from behind the scenes, only becoming involved when necessary.
Relationships
History
Vox became enamoured with Zemer Epsh, creating the Ring of Baleful Flames as a symbol of their potential union to entice her, but the gift was spurned, causing an animosity between the two.
