Human
Humans are a race of mortals, found on Apa Axas. Humans are one of the younger races on Apa Axas, and yet are the most numerous. They are abundant, hardy and highly adaptable, leading them to settle in nearly any part of Apa Axas. Their ubiquity has caused (if not forced) other races to tolerate and trade with the Humans, making them one of the most well-off and trusted species. However, despite their commonplace appearances, some sects of other races, such certain tribes of Lizardfolk, aim to remove Humanity from Apa Axas entirely, for reasons spanning from conquest to religious prophecy. Humans are known to be extremely fertile, and can interbreed with most other races, provided they are of a similar size to Humans and have compatible genotypes, a feature that other races cannot achieved. However, when siring offspring with Elves, or Orcs, a Half-Elf or Half-Orc is born, respectively. Why this happens to only Elves and Orcs is unclear, but theorised to due to the famous “Orcish virility” and the smaller ancestry of The Vida Quda. However, this theory does not explain why Dwarves cannot interbreed with Humans. Early studies believed that Halflings were Half-Dwarves, a belief that lead to the Halflings earning their race name, but this was proven false by many sources.
Civilization and Culture
Culture and Cultural Heritage
Humans are the most varied race in Apa Axas, with very little connecting them in terms of morality or alignment, and can be found all over Apa Axas. They are one of the most successful races, being the only race over than Elves to maintain an empire in Apa Axas and survive the experience. Furthermore, they are often accredited for some of the most ingenious technological progressions in recent years and are famed for their diverse martial talents, such as the creation of the Oath of Devotion and the Oath of Glory for their Paladins. They are one of the most widely tolerated races in Apa Axas, despite being looked down on by Elves and Dwarves, and tend to not have long running racial rivals, due to their relatively short life-spans.
History
The origins of Humanity are surprisingly well documented, in comparison to other species. It is said that they are descendants of the last of the Vida Quda’s children, The Most-Favoured. Unlike the Elves, fathered by Feny Lekki, and the Dwarves, fathered by Surm Tutdrug, before them, these new creatures were produced asexually using only material produced by the Vida Quda alone, allowing them to possess the undiluted adaptability of the Vida Quda, earning her pride at last, for her endless quest to find a suitable race to inherit Apa Axas after Time expires.
Despite the noble intentions of their creation, and magnitude of their destiny, the Most-Favoured were initially a cruel and barbaric species. They roved the lands of Apa Axas cannibalising and enslaving the native Elves and Dwarves, establishing a reputation for violence from the descendants of the Most-Favoured in the eyes of the Elves and Dwarves. The arrival of the Most-Favoured was most fortuitous, as they helped turn the tides against The Great Horde of Sangroke Bliss. However, after a long period of conflict, the Most-Favoured had been scattered and forced into the wilds and barren places of the world. These conditions forced the Most-Favoured to adapt, and, due to the blessings imparted on them by their creator mother, they adapted well. Three distinct races were born from this splitting, the Humans, the Halflings and the Gnomes. While Gnomes had stealth and ingenuity and Halflings had charm and luck on their side, the Humans had sheer adaptability, allowing them advantage over some of the more stoic of Apa Axas’s races. The Hunans quickly carved out their own space within Elven society upon their return to civilisation, and quickly become a political force to be reckoned with.
