Drelux

The Wispmother, The Dreamweaver, The Slumber Sovereign, The False Angler, The Guardian of the Wall, The Restful Healer, The Dark Dreamer, The Fearful Fateful, The Wicked Witch (a.k.a. Draxites Slumbercraft)

Drelux, sometimes called the Wispmother, is the Travesty representing sleep, false idols and gullibility. Like other Travesties, she is said to be a manifestation of another plane of existence on Apa Axas, in this case, The Astral Plane.   Drelux is the guardian of The Wall of Sleep, a structure she built around Apa Axas to shield mortals from the sheer horror the sights of The Far Realm had to offer. Although usually seen as benevolent, she will expose her enemies to the sheer Far Realm in order to drive them mad, and she is not above using this punishment as discipline if her subjects displease her. She is said to be fond of locks and vaults, and seals away treasure.   It is said that Lenten, the patron saint of Thieves, is her daughter, and occasionally grants her blessing to Dreamsnatcher Rogues in an act of rebellion towards Drelux. Her other daughter, St Lament is the patron of Dream Domain Clerics and acts as a healing force on the world.

Divine Domains

While Drelux's main domains are Dreams, false idols and gullibility, she is also considered to oversee Ash, Poetry, Hallucinations, Vigilance, Graves, and Bats.

Holy Books & Codes

Drelux is one of the more widely-accepted Travesties with open worship being legal within The Saccan Empire. This is unheard of amongst the darker gods, which often invoke fear as opposed to respect, but it is for good reason, as even The Mad Queen understands the importance of The Wall of Sleep. The Slumber Order is the most popular of the religions dedicated to the Guardian of the Wall.

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

Like many of the Beacons and Travesties, Drelux appears in a variety of different forms, depending on who she is interacting with.   To The High Elven Pantheon, she is known as Draxites Slumbercraft, and appears as an older Elven Woman, who appears in the Night's Gloom with a small vial of the essence of the Astral Plane, which she drops into the ears of entranced elves. It is thought that Elves do not need to sleep as Drelux protects their restful journies.   In The Modern Wood Elven Pantheon, Drelux appears as an emaciated feminine Giant, with a bound upper face and a rictus grin. She also appears as a spirit Crow, and is made up of four aspects; The Restful Healer, The Dark Dreamer, The Fearful Fateful and The Wicked Witch. She is prayed to before young Elves enter their trance, so they may be guided through the Astral Plane safely.

Special abilities

Even before her ascension at the God Severment, Drelux (as the Wispmother) possessed many capabilities, most of which she uses to this day. Her life span is potentially infinite, as long as people believe in her as a concept, and this renders her almost invincible, as it is hard to kill an idea. Due to her status as a conceptual being, she can easily access the sleeping minds of mortals, and even puppet their bodies while they slumber, in an act called Dreamwalking. Some worshippers of Drelux view this as the ultimate gift from Drelux, and yearn to recieve it.

Personal history

The origins of Drelux are unclear, but best guesses indicate that Drelux first appeared to the first creatures on Apa Axas capable of sleep, the Dwarves. It is said that Drelux appeared to a young Dwarven child, and filled him so full of fear that he died nearly immediately, starting an urban rumour of 'The Wispmother', a creature that kills sleeping children. Belief in this local legend allowed Drelux to survive in the minds of the Dwarven people as a psychic entity for thousands of years, although during this time, she made many attempts to escape, earning her the ire of the Dwarven people, and their patron deity, Surm Tutdrug. She attempts to puppet a Dwarven Paladin into opening a rift to the Astral Plane, in order to release a powerful sleeping agent so she could permenantly inhabit the bodies of the entire Dwarven people, in an incident referred to as "The Night of the Wispmother". She was defeated by a group of Adventurers and Surm Tutdrug, who, with aid of knowledge acquired from Cthothlast, managed to remove the memory of the Wispmother from the minds of the Dwarven people. However, she lingered on in the minds of the adventurers who had thwarted her, and she plotted her revenge, growing stronger with each brag they made about defeating her.   Her chance would come after The God Severment in which The New Gods were torn from the face of Apa Axas. The energies released by this weapon allowed the Wispmother to ascend into godhood and become Drelux proper. However, the energy was too much for the weakened parasite, and she was forced to split into four to contain the power; the Travesty Drelux, the newest formed realm of Sombre, and two shards: Lenten and St Lament.

Personality Characteristics

Motivation

Despite creating a barrier to protect the minds of all mortals, Drelux is known to not be entirely altruistic. She seems to enjoy showing mortals glimpses of what lies behind the Wall of Sleep in the form of terrible nightmares, and revels in watching as they are ripped from the Astral Plane in stark terror. Her reasons for this are unknown, although some believe it is to remind humanity of her importance, or merely some cruel jest. While her clergy maintain that these nightmares are merely small bursts of psychic energy that have slipped through the cracks, for even a goddess as powerful as Drelux couldn’t possibly hold back the entire Far Realm by herself; others state that her experience of mortality is so warped that she believes all humans are curious about the true horror of the universe despite their kinds being too frail to comprehend it, and that showing them is akin to taking a request as a bard or introducing a child to a new fact. Whatever the case, nightmares are aplenty when Drelux casts her wisps upon the land.

Social

Family Ties

Drelux has two semi-travesties under her charge, both of whom often act as her Emissaries; her daughters Lenten and St Lament, the Awakened. It is said that the daughters very rarely interact, only communicating in times of great danger, and that their presence together may be one of the surest signs of the apocalypse.
