The Republic of Nydonia
Culture
The Nydonian culture is one of industry, with the largest social class being comprised of factory workers and farmers. A strong sense of patriotism pervades the fabric of Nydonian society, with many seeing it as their duty to serve their nation in any way that they can, even to the point of scratching their lives in the form of dying in war. This patriotism has lessened somewhat in recent times after the Twelve Years War as the country became more corrupt, many claiming that the Republic of Nyodia cares more for the profit of its politicians through dealings with foreign powers than for its own sovereign people. The Nydonian people themselves have a quite communal culture revolving around largely materialism. While the majority of the country has always been of the worker class, as the largest Nydonian cities continue to grow, the new dwelling of population begins to tip the culture more in favor of the city life. While farmers and factory workers still remain the majority, artisans and scientists have began to flood out of the county's myriad new colleges.

Nyodnia prides itself on its prowess in armored warfare, beginning in the The War of the Nine Emperors. A large portion of their economy is based on manufacturing and selling both armored, commercial, and civilian vehicles to other countries. Owing partially to the tumultuous waters off the Nydonian coast, the country has never invested greatly in naval technology, instead relying mostly on other countries to supply naval vessels. Nydonian aircraft, while some have been renowned for the excellent engineering, have often been plagued by malfunctions as well, leading to a similar solution to the navy.
History
The Republic of Nydonia began as a colony of the Pertorian Commonwealth, with the vast majority of the colony's population being made up of native Nydonians. This first colony was established in the mid 1700s and rapidly grew in size as many of the native tribes and communities either willingly submitted to the colonizers or were conquered as they could not unify to put up any significant defense. As the area of Tandara colonized by the Pertorian Commonwealth grew, it's bordered began to come into contact with those of other countries' colonies as well as larger hostiles conglomerates of native tribes, thus stopping their expansion. For dozens of years the bordered of Nydonia remained virtually the same, with Pertoria focusing on building the colony up into a modern society. Many of the native people were actually grateful for this new advancement in technology as it greatly increased their quality of life, aided by the fact that Pertoria allowed for a relatively large amount of self governance to take place, and thus the area remained fairly stable for many years.
A major turning point for the colony occurred when a massive earthquake racked the western continents, causing massive causalities and damage to infrastructure in these regions. This earthquake caused a massive tsunami, the largest in recorded history from what historians can deduce from records, which smahsed into the eastern side of Tandara. As the Nydonian colony makes up a large portion of this coast, they were devastated by the natural disaster. The Pertorian Commonwealth, while suffering relativly little damage compared to their largest colony (and even when compared to the other earthquake stricken nations), sent pitiful amounts of aid to help in the disaster relief of their colony, even pulling back forces to help rebuild their homeland. Some claim that this was their duty as the motherland is always the first priority to a country than its colonies and that the technology of the time would not have allowed for as much aid as it would today, but the Nydoian people saw only their great and powerful ruling nation abandon them to rebuild and bury their dead on their own. This calamity caused massive unrest and displeasure with the ruling Pertorian government, and even before all the damage from the natural disaster had been prepared people began to take up arms and demand independence if they were already expected to fend for themselves to such a degree. This sentiment was worsened even more when the Pertorian Commonwealth sent military forces in an attempt to quell the rebellion, as it displayed their ability to deploy forces and made their lack of doing so just a few years prior even more egregious. As the word spread of Nyodnian militias being cut down as they attempted to defend their coast from the landing Pertorians, thousands upon thousands took up arms, and after a short but bloody war of independence, the Republic of Nydonia was finally established as a sovereign nation in 1808. Other rival colonial powers such as the Peoples Republic of Acentia also aided in this rebellion.
After the war, the new Repbulic of Nydonia capitalized on their native resources to leverage even more support from foreign nations. One such resource was Nydonian Sugarcane, which was quite valuable at the time as it was one of the few ways to produce true cyan dye. To showcase their defiant victory over the Pertorians, cyan dye was used extensively in the design of the infant country's flag, and has been ever since in addition to becoming a sort of symbol for Nydonian defiance and national pride.
The Colonial Nydonian flag, seen above, featured extensive use of the color cyan interwoven equally with black to showcase the union of former colonists with the native Tandarans, with an white eagle in the center symbolizing power and defiance as well as the purity of the country's motives.
