Mk-LMG1/3

Mechanics & Inner Workings

With the invention of better heat treating and superior alloys, the water cooling system was able to be swapped in exchange for simply a more heat resistant barrel. Even then, the lack of a quick change barrel mechanism led to reliably issues in the field after extended use. In addition to a few other small mechanical or material upgrades, the new version also has an extended 30 round magazine, which while the extra rounds were very useful at times, it only contributed to overheating issues.

History

While mounting pleas of servicemen for a new service light machine gun accumulated, the army higher ups balked. They performed their own "extensive testing" of the current gun and determined that a simple upgrade to The War of the Nine Emperors-era weapon would suffice. As one might imagine, this did not go over well with the men at all, and many stories arose of soldiers reporting their LMG1/3s as being destroyed or lost in action under suspicious circumstances. While the weapon served for a little while longer, it got bad enough that the government finally relented and adopted the Mk-LMG2 after extensive field testing to a hardy reception from the troops.
