8mm Nydonian

8x55mm

Utility

Designed as a powerful yet relatively lightweight rifle round, 8mm Nydonian was the work horse of Nydonian ammunition during the Twelve Years War. These supersonic rounds excelled in accuracy at long ranges while still maintaining lethality and also being able to punch through body armor and other materials. The main complaint by its users was over penetration at closer danger resulting in lackluster stopping power, leading Roshal Maivren to innovate frangible 8mm Nydonian rounds (know as 8mm NF) that helped solving this issue with bullet they would break apart upon hitting their target, ensuring all the force as transferred into the unfortunate recipient. These rounds did have an increased rate of failures, some of which could be quite damaging to the rifle and even potentially the user themself, but soldiers sung its praises nonetheless.

Manufacturing

Tryebuchyet Zevsgiin Dizain was and still is the primary producer of these rounds, though many smaller companies now produce similar options and variants.
Inventor(s)
This round was invented by the renowned Roshal Maivren by commission of the Nydonian Department of War. The reason for this demand was rising concerns of Stanni soldiers capturing and requisitioning intercepted Nydonian supplies and using them for their own war effort, as was seen in the Southern Tandara Bush War. To remedy this problem in the foreseen inevitable conflict that would come to be known as the Twelve Years War, new non-standard caliber rounds that were just slightly too large to fit into Stanni weapons. One of these was the 8x55mm round. Almost all previous rifles and similar weapons were converted to fire 8mm rounds upon their adoption.
