Mk-LMG1
Mechanics & Inner Workings
The LMG1 was mediocre at best. With a top feeding mechanism that many soldiers complained about due to obstruction of field of view as well as making the gun's sight inaccurate and longer ranges, suffice it to say the weapon was not a popular one, even though several hundred thousand were made of all variants. In addition, its water cooled system was notoriously leaky due to poor tolerances and fitting issues, leading the weapon to drain out quite quickly and the barrel to heat up and deform, making it useless. The top loaded magazine holds 22 rounds which are cycled from a bolt powered by forward attached springs which led to even further reliability issues made worse be internals of the gun being unnecessarily exposed to the outside environment. The LMG1/1 and LMG1/2 saw small improvements to the gun, such as improved heat treating and material for the barrel and various other high stress components prone to failure and improved sights. Even bigger changes and improvements were implemented into the Mk-LMG1/3.
History
Adopted in the era of The War of the Nine Emperors, the LMG1 was functional for its time and served its purpose. Unfortunatly, due to bureaucracy in the higher up military officials, the remained in service for far longer than it should have. It was finally swapped out after nearly 40 years of service after the beginning of the Twelve Years War, even after many warned of its inadequacies during the Southern Tandara Bush War. The most prominent and famous of these inadequacies came down to the water cooling system, which was notorious for leaking profously. This would often lead to soldiers deployed in the field being forced to actually unrinate into the water containment area when it ran dry in the middle of combat or risk their barrel warping or getting hot enough to cause a catostrphoic failure. This problem was undoubtedly the cause of many Nydonian servicemen being killed in the line of service, and even lead to the term "pisser" becoming synonymous with assistant gunners as the operator of the gun would often have their assistant urinate to fill the weapon while they would lay down as much fire as they could with a secondary weapon. This spiteful nickname becasue so prolific that it persists even to the current day, with many users not even knowing its origin.
